So really you are saying that you don't want to buy it but will carry on using it for free that doesn't make much sense.seamus wrote: ↑Wed Aug 13, 2025 10:29 pmGood for you, and I truly hope you're not disappointed. Since learning that MakeMKV is from Russia, I'd feel more comfortable if the software were open source. Nothing against Russians individually, but the country does seem to be home to some unscrupulous people. That said, based on posts from those who've bought licenses, I may still buy a license once I've gained more experience using it.

Maybe I didn't read it properly but when people say things like they will buy it when they had more experience, IMO that's just saying I will carry on using it for free, you don't need much experience learning from how to use it.seamus wrote: ↑Fri Aug 15, 2025 4:42 amYou really don't read very well, do you?Blyth wrote: ↑Thu Aug 14, 2025 4:56 pmSo really you are saying that you don't want to buy it but will carry on using it for free that doesn't make much sense.seamus wrote: ↑Wed Aug 13, 2025 10:29 pm

I DEMAND that a key that actually works be posted in this thread ASAP. Several months ago I was ripping TV shows to put on Plex and just found out that I accidentally ripped one episode twice with one copy of the episode mislabled as the episode I misssed.

Well gee whiz... I guess your deep experience and incredible insight into the behavior patterns of all humans allows you to make such a sweeping statement. ... I think not ... my guess is that you're just a gas bag blowing off at the mouth (er - keyboard). The facts are: 1. you don't know me, and 2. you have no idea what I'll do. Which makes your post(s) here nothing more than the vapid meanderings of a weak mind.

What is it about this post that confuses you?: "MakeMKV is free while in beta". Do you not understand what "beta" is, or were you not aware that MakeMKV is still in "beta"?Blyth wrote: ↑Thu Aug 14, 2025 4:56 pmSo really you are saying that you don't want to buy it but will carry on using it for free that doesn't make much sense.seamus wrote: ↑Wed Aug 13, 2025 10:29 pmGood for you, and I truly hope you're not disappointed. You get an excellent software that works consistently. For free.
The creator took a week off, and doesn't post precisely on your schedule to give you a key that makes the free software continue to work.
You come on here and DEMAND that they drop everything to you get a key immediately, just because YOU made a mistake?
If I were Mike, just from messages like this, I would shut EVERYTHING down, no free Beta keys. Just from the sheer audacity of people like you DEMANDING to have your way.
You get a great beta software for free. You had to wait for a few days. Why do you think you're entitled to demand anything? Especially when you are paying nothing? The world didn't end by having to wait a few days for something that you don't pay for, anyway.
The entitlement of people really is something.

I guess that we’re not all Russian and don’t all do things in a way that would be cause for concern in the running of a business.

danieandlemmy posted their comment after the new beta key was already available if I recall correctly. As such, I interpreted their comment as sarcasm and a poor attempt at humor. I agree it would be more clear if they had bothered to use an e moji or the old skool <sarcasm>tag</sarcasm>.
In any case, I hope everyone can let it all go. There's so much more to worry about in the world than either bad humor or entitled idiots on a web forum.

Re: What is the deal with the KEY?
Good Morning, I am new here and want some information about the purchased version. I have noticed users recommending your product with 5-star ratings, but it has more functions, which can be confusing. Additionally, when I downloaded the beta version, a pop-up message read This version is outdated. It works kind of, but I'm not sure if it is. help please.

Re: What is the deal with the KEY?
The beta version is the same program as the purchased version, except the key expires every 2 months. The key in the download expired back in July, for example, and there is a message that gets updated with a new key when the old one expires, but not instantly.
Buying the program gets you a permanent key, which does not expire.

I suggest you stop using MakeMKV and find other software.seamus wrote: ↑Thu Aug 14, 2025 4:48 pmYes - some of the Russian people seem to be positively brilliant!exodoplex wrote: ↑Thu Aug 14, 2025 1:51 amHonestly, I've found Russian software can be very good in general. Unlike software of Chinese origin, which inevitably always seems to be cheap or stolen or scammy. Heck, Kaspersky is Russian. And when that became unavailable to US residents that was a huge loss. One of the best Anti-malware softwares in existence. I 'spose it makes one of the countries that authors the most malware (next to China and the US of course) knows how to get rid of it LOLseamus wrote: ↑Wed Aug 13, 2025 10:29 pm

All I'm really trying to say is this: You're dealing with strangers; their website cannot be called "reliable"; the people behind it are from an area of the world where things are "different" than they are in the West. Any one of those would be cause for caution.
You are not merely complaining of the FREE software you are using, you are doing it based:
1- Mostly on WHERE the author is from?
2- Supplemented by you not being acquainted with him?
3- Supplemented with the free key not always being functional?
1- Prejudice, pure and simple. There are many hackers who reside in Western society and are of Western origins, and many malwares released both by individuals or groups and by "seemingly legitimate" companies from Western countries. Meanwhile, there are also incredibly good softwares I found from both Russia & China.
2- Then I guess you should not use Windows. Or Linux. Or Android. Or any software written for any of those OSes. Unless you are saying you know every dev writing code for the OS you use? And all other software you use? Yeah, thought not.
3- The website IS reliable. The FREE beta key is not 100% maintained, being it is not always immediately updated after expiration. Dislike that? Buy the software or use different software. The recent incident of MakeMKV not being purchasable and the beta key not being updated for 2 weeks was a bad coincidence of Mike being unavailable when Paypro's supply of keys was depleted and Mike's main support person being in the hospital. MakeMKV is not being programmed & maintained by a large corporation. Expecting response & support as if it was is pure entitlement.
You should be cautious of any software new to you, regardless of its origins. You would feel more comfortable if it was open source? Agreed, as I would be with any software regardless of the country/entity of origin, but malware can also be hidden in open source software while open-sourcing the software would remove almost all of Mike's income from his work writing & maintaining MakeMKV. MakeMKV was originally released almost 2 decades ago, and Mike offered the free beta this entire time, despite how many people come onto the forum solely to complain "OMG Y IS IT NOT FUKSHUNING WEN I WANT IT" almost every 2 months. For you to say ANYTHING you did in your prior posts is beyond rude & insulting to Mike, and all people not from Western countries.
