Unable to Set Region for MATSHITABD-MLT_UJ230AS__1

Post by ctlw83 »

I've had this problem for a while, maybe someone here knows the answer, if not, I am planning on investing in a LG BP50NB40 in the near future, which I believe supports LibreDrive.

I've had a MATSHITABD-MLT_UJ230AS for years. I discovered that the DVD region was never set on it. The first time I attempted to set the region on it a year or two ago it crashed the Windows region set interface. Since then, the set region interface still shows that I have 5 changes left, I attempt to set the region, and it never changes.

I've also needed to install the specific 3rd=party unsigned driver to get the drive to be recognized and function in Windows.

Because I cannot set the region, I get a region mismatch error in MakeMKV and cannot copy anything.

The drive Hardware ID is MATSHITABD-MLT_UJ230AS__1
I am using Windows 11 Home 24H2

Things I've tried

-Setting the region in the Windows interface using the DVD Region tab in the properties
--Interface shows 5 changes remaining
--Result - I select the region, click Save or Apply, there is a spinning icon to indicate the system is doing something, but nothing actually changes

- Fully deleting and re-installing the driver
--Requires me disabling driver signature checks, but makes the drive visible and usable again

- Updating the firmware of the drive
-- I found the firmware for the non-SONY version of the drive that I have - https://support.nec-lavie.jp/driver/det ... le_no=5740
-- Attempted to run the updater but it first asks to open the drive tray, I open the tray and it then says the drive is disconnected. This happens regardless of running as an admin or not

Try set region with different disk inside. Audio CD, blank disc etc...
Or with USB to SATA-Adapter.
Debian 13
Xfce 4.20
MakeMKV 1.18.1 (Reg)
2x Pioneer BD-ROM BDC-202

Thank you for the tip.

I tried a few discs with no change. It is an external drive so there would be no USB to SATA adapter as it is already USB. I'll note that I had a cheap DVD reader from China that I WAS able to set the region on but it died a couple of weeks after I got it.

I ordered the LG BP50NB40 and it should arrive by Thursday. I should be able to set the region and also hope to do the LibreDrive cross-flash.

Thanks again for your help. If anyone thinks of any way to get the region set to work on this Matshita drive, please let me know. I'd love to have it as a backup.
