I am thinking about getting a pioneer BDR-209-DBK is drives firmware libre drive capable? coopervid can you please pm me. Thank you
No need to PM. Get a drive if you still can and post your Makemkv info. Hopefully it has a firmware before 12 / 2022. Otherwise you have to wait until Mike has a fix for newer firmware. No ETA for that.

I have one of these on stock firmware 1.34 and have been looking for options.

Can't currently get MakeMKV to work despite downloading and installing from official links (v1.18.1) as it keeps saying:

This application version is too old. Please download the latest version at HTTP://www.makemkv.com/ or enter a registration key to continue using the current version.

Now I can't remember installing a previous version, but I was going to share the info from the drive and not sure how to do it. I can try with Linux later this week, as I dual boot with Ubuntu, or I can run another distro just for this.

I have other drives I can try but this is the one I was hoping to use.

I also have a 2014 era drive that I have updated at some point with the 2018 era firmware. Works great for normal HD BDs, but if I can get it crossflashed to do UHD BDs, that would be great.

Manufacturer: PIONEER
Product: BD-RW BDR-209D
Revision: 1.51
Serial number:
Firmware date: 2018-05-08

Highest AACS version: 68

LibreDrive Information
Status: Enabled
Drive platform: RS8600
Firmware name: PIONEER BDR-209
Firmware type: Original (unpatched)
Firmware version: 1.51/ID61
DVD all regions: Yes

I have the following drive. Can it be upgraded to read 4K/Ultra HD Blu-Ray discs? If so, how can I do that?

Is there a difference between changing the drive firmware and reflashing? If so, what is the difference?

Thanks in advance.

Manufacturer: PIONEER
Product: BD-RW BDR-209M
Revision: 1.33
Serial number:
