Pauses when ripping then carries on

Post by Blyth »

I'm not getting any error messages but this has happened to two different films, it will pause near the end you can hear the drive stops then in about 3-4 minutes it will start again.

It is a USB drive with no separate power cable.

Just seeing if it happens to anyone else? The drive stops for a few minutes then it powers up and then carries on, sometimes it will do it a couple of times during a rip.

Does it really stop or just slow down?

MakeMKV drive speed control

This is the last entry in that thread:
mike admin wrote:Starting with 1.15.3 MakeMKV manages read speed more actively. Specifically, it switches to the minimum speed not only on errors, but also around disc edges and layer breaks. Passing the layer switch on minimum speed eliminates many firmware bugs relayed to high-speed seek errors.

Its not speed control it completely stops the light on the player goes out, if I go into device manager the manager freezes.

Defective or dirty discs can lockup my LG disc player so badly that I need to power cycle my computer. Try cleaning or replacing the problem discs.

I thought I would update this:

I think it could well be that the discs are dirty but not to the eye, I have had a handful of discs that pauses completely and then resumes after 5 minutes, while it has stopped MakeMKV seems to completely freeze with the rest of windows, not being able to do anything, it's strange though because if I let it wait it will come back to life and resumes with no errors. You would think it would pop up with a error.

For testing I have shutdown the computer and cleaned the disc with some specs glass cleaner and when I rip again it doesn't pause, sometimes it will pause at the last 20 seconds even though I gave it a good clean.
