State of the site and purchases

Post by Danillya »

I've used MakeMKV before and thought I might as well add a few of the films I've got lying around into my library.
The beta key expired but that's not a problem, right? So I go to the forum post with the current key and... there's no new key yet.
I thought that's fine! Might as well buy a key, even if it's still in beta on Linux. So I try to find the purchase button on the site...
And I couldn't find it. So I googled it and found the page with the link. I click on it and... currently unavailable...
I thought, maybe there's some info that could help in the FAQ on the site... Nope, PHP errors instead.

I like MakeMKV. It does exactly what I want and is simple to use. But the whole layout of the site, the errors, the lack of communication,
the inability to purchase a license, none of these things make it seem trustworthy. When I first found the site I wasn't sure whether this was
an ancient site from times long forgotten on the internet or some kind of scam. A serious face lifting is required here, especially since there's
no way to find the purchase link without google which as I've said doesn't work either.

If you'll look through previous forum posts, the issue with the beta and purchase keys has been going on for several days now. The beta key expired at the end of July and a new one has not been posted. It appears the developer may be unavailable due to vacation, illness, or some other factor. The program was working great as of last week and I imagine new keys will be available in the near future. At least I hope so as this is a fabulous piece of software.

The purchase page is accessed via the [Buy] button within the makemkv application. I like this "feature" because it guarantees that you have tried the application before you actually purchase it. I agree it would be helpful if the site instructed you how to purchase.

The order page has now been disabled, so something is going wrong somewhere. Guessing they've come across an issue with a new release and have to change something or go back to the old version before supplying a key. Was hoping to have it by now for something a little time sensitive and would rather not buy from another company.

I found he "hack" to keep the program running, but I too want to buy the program. Hopefully they repair the payment system or find something else that works.

I received today a refund confirmation from PayPro (I hadn't requested one). I don't know what this means regarding Mike's possible return or not and the future of MakeMKV...

What is the "hack" to get it to work? I have one DVD left. I have tried to buy it for the last few days without success like many of you posting. I still plan to purchase it when its back online just so I do not run into this again.

I have read you can set the clock back in time on your computer to last month. I have no idea how to do it but I'm guessing it's not hard.

That's correct in Windows right click on the clock and go into settings and turn off auto update and then change the Month.

Thanks for the responses. I am on Linux and use the application in a docker container, so all the dependencies are already handled. I will have to look into a way to turn the clock back in the docker container.

Docker containers use the systems environment when possible for things like time. Just backdate your system time and restart your docker container.
