Lionsgate Frailty 4K - Won't Open

Post by kgturner » Thu Jul 31, 2025 3:35 pm

Anybody have any trouble with this disc? I cannot get the 4K to open. Tried MakeMKV (paid for version), DVD Fab 13 (also paid for) & ImgBurn. The disc will not open in any of these programs. Drive is an LG BU40N. I cleaned the disc and still won't open.

Did MakeMKV generate a TGZ dump file? Because if so, you should email it to svq@makemkv.com. And could you also upload it into (say) OneDrive or Google Drive please, and then reply with a public download link? This would allow people to try adding your disk to the public KEYDB.cfg file too.

It would be helpful to say what the MakeMKV log window says about the disc. Saying it doesn't open or work isn't really helpful at all.
Cheers :D

It literally will not load or open the disc. My BU40N doesn't even show up in File Explorer to show that a disc is loaded in it. The BD disc included opens & I have ripped that for the time being.

Here is the 4K:

The drive doesn't even sound like it spins up.

I have emailed Lionsgate to report a defective disc because I'm not sure what else to do.

Clean the disc. If that doesn't make any difference, return the disc for a replacement.

Yeah, I already emailed them. Their response was to clean it was alcohol & microfiber cloth. Did it. No change.

Since cleaning didn't work, your options are to:

1. Return it to where you purchased it from if possible.
2. Try the disc in a different drive.

Just curious:

Did the replacement disc work.

I have the same exact problem with Ready Player One. I think zO have the same drive as you. Thanks.

They haven't offered yet. I'm emailing them again on Monday since it's the weekend and requesting a replacement. Thus far all they've offered is cleaning tips. If they refuse to replace the disc, I guess I'll reach out to my CC and request a charge back.

Where did you buy it from, Lionsgate directly?? I would have thought you'd purchase from a retail store? Can't you return it to the store?

Return it as faulty. "It won't play properly in your UHD player. It skips in sections and shows artifacts on screen."

They've shipped me a new disc or set. Just got the tracking information today. I will post later if the new 4K disc loads or not.

Happens occasionally. My first 4K copy of Chungking Express from Criterion did the same thing. Wouldn't open on any players or makemkv drives. Play side of the disc had some weird striations visible near the inner hub when held under light. Im guessing it was just a bad pressing. Replacement worked fine.
