Got it. I do not know the history of this firmware arms race. will there ever be a time in the future when you can buy an off the shelf uhd capable drive that will work without flashing?

Billy's, mine and Asmcom's are already flashed/prepared/tested for UHD readability and are libredrive enabled, ready to go.

There's not on in "The all you need firmware pack" or "mk-firmware-pack-20200720" which is all I've been able to find so far.
