BDR-S12XJ Need Flash for UHD?

I purchased a BDR-S12XJ and was wondering if it will need a flash to read UHD blurays even if it has a firmware before December 2022? It is advertised as capable of "4K Ultra HD Blu-ray playback" so i was thinking a flash wouldn't be necessary. Any help would be appreciated.

Put an UHD disc in it and try. It‘s as easy as that.

I'm still waiting on it to be delivered, I just was wondering if anyone knew if it would work with UHD disc without a flash. I'll test it out tomorrow and give an update.

It should be the Japanese version of the S12UHT. Can you please post your Makemkv info. Hopefully it has firmware before Dec. 2022. Then it could be flashed for UHD and it should then be Libredrive compatible.

I received it and the firmware is from 2020, looks like the equivalent to the BDR-S12XJ is the BDR-212UBK. I put a 4k Blu-ray in it and it ripped fine. I didn't flash it or anything like that. Works perfectly straight out of the box.
