hello im having dramas with my transformers 2007 film disc , makemkv doesnt like it , it stops about 17 to 20 gb into the backup , this is the only disc ive had problems with , i admit i havnt been using makemkv very long & not very experienced with the program , but was hoping of someone help me with pointing me in the right direction to figure this problem out . thanks

Can you copy & paste the MakeMKV log (the bottom half of the screen) of trying to rip that disc into the forum?

The most common suggestion is to gently clean the disc and try again.

hello thanks for helping me , i went and got another brand new disc with no defects on it , & it did the same thing as the last disc , & i copied & pasted the details u asked for , thanks

That message means the optical drive was unable to correctly read a spot on that disc. The standard advice is to gently clean the disc and try again. Sometimes, even brand new discs can have an almost invisible film on them left over from the manufacturing process or as a result of the plastic case off gassing. Whenever I have to clean a disc, I use plenty of warm water and liquid dish soap and gently scrub the disc with my fingertip moving in a straight line from the inner ring to the outer ring.
It has also been my experience that a different drive might get different results when reading the same disc. If you have a second drive, trying the disc in a different drive might help.

hello , this drive has not ever played up with any film so far before , but thats now 2 brand new discs that have behaved the same way , ive only got the one uhd ripper atm , i will try cleaning the disc tomorrow also , but yes buying another drive or buying a different version of the film would probly be the next step , thanks

hello , i tried cleaning the disc , the disc did the same thing & failed once again , i also tried copying the disc contents to a harddrive to then use in makemkv , the harddrive got to about the same spot as the disc about the 17 to 18gb , does this mean its some sort of problem with the files on the disc ? thanks

There's certainly something about that disc that your optical drive doesn't like.

If you want to copy the whole disc to your drive, using MakeMKV's backup function is the best way to do that. On the first screen of MakeMKV, click the icon of the yellow folder with the green arrow at the top. Make sure the decrypted box is checked, pick a location & folder name and let MakeMKV decrypt and copy the contents of a disc to a folder on your hard drive (or an .iso file in the case of a DVD).
