New old stock 2018 Pioneer BDR-S11JBK

Post by VA1DER »

Just saw this on Ali Express: https://a.aliexpress.com/_m09DdZ9

The photo shows it as Pioneer BDR-S11JBK. Comes up for me at $112 CAD. Sticker shows 2018 manufacturing date which implies it's MakeMKV ready.

There are also listings for new S13C-X's, though those are coming up at $600 CAD.

NOTE: The vendor for this is a generic "Shop12345678" style vendor, which is the Ali Express version of a numbered company. Some of those are fake vendors. Ali Express holds your money in escrow and will refund you if it turns out to be a fake, but you do need to watch to make sure the refund time doesn't expire. That all said, I've ordered one.

Ali Express ... will refund you if it turns out to be a fake...
This is not an objective fact, it's 50/50 at best. AliExpress uses what e-bay uses which is what they both call "deliberation". The reality is that it's not deliberation but corporatism, meaning the burden of proof is solely on the buyer and AliExpress likes to demonstrate that as much as possible by rejecting refund requests with the option to "appeal". The appeal process at AliExpress is seemingly identical to e-bay's also, which is you sending in more and more pictures of "proof" until you simply give up or if you're lucky after 2 or 3 "appeals" you get a refund of some type. Today, both sites are now pushing for you to physically return the products in hope of aggravating you to not bother. These aren't consumer friendly methods, but that's the world today and it's only getting worse.

I've been shopping at both e-bay and Alibaba since the year they launched (95/99 respectively), and the most crucial thing for both sites is to know what to buy and from whom, today more than ever.
