I just got one of these drives. It's manufactured in 2012. Seems to be Sony drive in it.

Code: Select all

Drive Information
OS device name: E:
Manufacturer: ASUS
Product: SBW-06D2X-U
Revision: C701
Serial number: ...
Bus encryption flags: 1B
Highest AACS version: 28
Is libredrive supported on this?

clarification - "LibreDrive" does NOT mean "can read UHD disks". A drive built before UHD was available (like this one) is not likely to support it just by having its firmware unlocked.

You need to post the full information including "Drive platform".

I've a problem with an ASUS SBW-06D2X-U from a friend. First, he's a smoker so the drive smells and looks terrible.
The drive is flashed to BDR-UD04 1.14 so far so good. Recognition of CD/DVD with the red laser is great but recognition of BD / 4K ..... also terrible. Some yes, some no, some after multible opening and closing and trying again.

I've cleaned the laser twice. Recognition better. Testing multiple times with discs that were previously not detected or difficult was successful. But not all .... For safety times another cable tested, no further success, then the lenses cleaned three more times, the detection rate has continued to rise.

Basically, I am now at the point that, all discs are detected, up to 3-layer discs. Tested multiple times with different discs, which do not cause problems in another same drive. Here you have to open and close the load several times and eventually the discs will be recognized. Can it be done by the laser? I always went out of principle, laser does not work or works, but here I have the feeling that the laser does what he wants ..... Or is the laser not the cause?

Firstly -this is the laser lens that was / is polluted. Yes, lasers can deteriote as well and weaken but then writing causes a problem because laser power for writing is almost 10x compared to reading. Power supply can be an issue as well if the drive is in an enclosure. USB3 power or a powered hub usually helps.

Try again cleaning the lens with alcohol, not just water etc. But yes, the drive (laser) might be dying and then you can't do anything. Try do burn a disc. If that fails then the laser is bad.

Thanks for your reply :!:

Lenses are cleaned with alcohol, of course. What is good for me will be also good for the lenses ....

Power comes with an USB-Y-Power cable. That shouldn't be the problem, I think. But I'll ask another friend for his powered hub.

The hint with testing the drive by burning a BD will be tested after work. I will report then.

You are very welcome! The lens will most likely appreciate a higher content percentage on alcohol as you do :D :D .
