MakeMKV not recognizing ANY disc - Input parameter is incorrect (489)

Post by just_mrlj »

Hi,
I've recently (about a 3months ago) fully deployed my MakeMKV setup for ripping my collection of movies and tv shows and it has been running perfectly fine until about 3 days ago.
For this entire time i had the following error:

Code: Select all

Error 'Internal error - Input parameter is incorrect (489)' occurred while reading 'BD-RE ASUS BW-16D1HT 3.10 KEJIAIH0125' at offset '34816'
I how ever kept ignoring it as it hasn't impacted me in any significant way. Discs were ripped just fine only ejecting through the GUI made it so that the next disc wouldn't want to read, then I just restarted the container and it would work again.
But now I am getting this error and nothing works.
I started the container with a BR in the drive, without a BR in it, with a DVD in, without a DVD in, and it keeps throwing the same error.
I also activated the Log Debug Messages setting but I don't understand any of the output.
The error happened on ver. 1.17.9 and now also on 1.18.1.

Setup:
  • OS: Truenas Scale 24.10.0.2
  • Docker: 27.1.1
  • MakeMKV: 1.18.1
  • makeMKV container: jlesage/makemkv - 25.04.1
Yaml:

Code: Select all

services:
  makemkv:
    container_name: makemkv
    devices:
      - /dev/sr1
      - /dev/sg6
    environment:

      - GROUP_ID=568

      - /mnt/tshirt/configurations/makemkv:/config:rw
      - /mnt/tshirt/media/ripped:/output:rw

The Key is UNSET as I am using a license I bought through the config file:

I just tried the program with a DVD drive that I had laying around and that seemed to work just fine.
Didn't see any error messages in the log.
They only appear when using the bluray drive.

UPDATE:
It now also happens with the DVD drive... same logs.
I can't find any information in any other logs of my server though.

I'm having the same symptoms recently for my drive. Did you ever figure this out?

Code: Select all

Error 'Internal error - Input parameter is incorrect (489)' occurred while reading 'BD-RE HL-DT-ST BD-RE WH16NS60 1.02 M68IBNI1726' at offset '524288'
MakeMKV no longer detects the drive opening and closing, nor does it detect if a disk is inserted or removed. I can get around the issue by going to File -> Close whenever I swap disks, but this is cumbersome and annoying. And if it thinks there's no disk then the only solution is to restart the container. I plugged it into a windows machine and it was able to see when I ejected a disk and loaded a new one same as it used to on my linux machine. I tried setting the ID and GUID as 0 to run as root, and I also tried going back to previous versions of the image and no change, going back as far as tag 24.01.1 (MakeMKV version 1.17.6)

I'm running on Debian 12 Bookworm, and my compose file is:

Code: Select all

services:
  makemkv:
    image: jlesage/makemkv:v25.05.1
    container_name: makemkv
    restart: unless-stopped

Just to follow up here, my above symptoms seem to have been a precursor to the end of the drive. It stopped being able to read Blu Rays at all a couple days ago. Time to replace I guess.
