Terminator 4K

#1 Post by Cuddy2977 » Wed Apr 23, 2025 4:05 pm

Right …

I’m trying to rip a 4K version of The Terminator: on a 2024 Mac mini with a PIONEER BD-RW BDR-UD04 branded as a Verbatim 43888.

The software tells me: “The volume key is unknown for this disc - video can't be decrypted”

Given the recent Fatal Crash situation … ?

I’m concerned … and wondering how on Earth I get around this … ?

I should add that I’ve also tried ripping in my other optical drive: and washing the disc in soapy water.

With no luck.

I guess you haven't allowed internet access. UHDs need it.

Right … my system’s online …

How do I make sure the software can access what it needs?

Then it's blocked by your firewall / antivirus I suppose.

There’s possibly a lot I could say, there …

But it’s not an issue, as far as I can tell

Right: I’ve sent off the dumps from my last attempt: on the 23rd April.

And still haven’t heard.

I’ve tried again, today: on the assumption that the relevant update could have been done without my noticing.

I’m retrying the 4k version, again, today, with a similar result to last time: “The volume key is unknown for this disc - video can’t be decrypted”

When should I hear about my first enquiry: does anyone know?

I’m getting a touch anxious …

Never. You won't be contacted. You simply have to keep trying it periodically and makemkv will grab the latest cached keys. Once your titles are added they'll work. That can take anywhere from a day to several weeks.

Have you tried downloading the latest KEYDB.cfg file, copying it into MakeMKV's data directory (i.e. where MakeMKV also writes its TGZ dump files) and restarting MakeMKV?

It is possible that the public KEYDB may already contain your key...

I take it you mean the one called ‘keydb.cfg - Language English (29218 entries)’?

And would you know the path name for that folder? I can’t it, again!

Yes.

It's where MakeMKV writes its TGZ dump files, and is also visible in MakeMKV's "View/Preferences/General" tab as the "data directory".
