Have you tried downloading the latest KEYDB.cfg file, copying it into MakeMKV's data directory (i.e. where MakeMKV also writes its TGZ dump files) and restarting MakeMKV?

Also, are you sure that MakeMKV has managed to enable LibreDrive for your UHD drive? Your dump would be unusable if created without LibreDrive.

Yes, just downloaded yesterday and latest today again. I'm new to this but my 1st two backups went smoothly but this one hasn't worked. I'm not 100% certain it's a key issue either as I've randomly received SCSI errors on different attempts.
Thanks

I think KEYDB.cfg already contains your disk's Volume Unique Key (VUK). Your drive must also be capable of using LibreDrive if you've already backed up two disks, so maybe it just failed to enable LibreDrive for this one disk? What happens if you reinsert the disk and try again?

I probably tried 10 times yesterday and kept getting various failures (both before getting keydb and after).

However, I tried it again today and the first time it failed with a whole mess of errors like:
Error 'Scsi error - ILLEGAL REQUEST:INVALID FIELD IN CDB' occurred while reading 'BD-RE HL-DT-ST BD-RE BU40N 1.03 MOEOAMC0929' at offset '655360'
Error 'Scsi error - ILLEGAL REQUEST:INVALID FIELD IN CDB' occurred while reading 'BD-RE HL-DT-ST BD-RE BU40N 1.03 MOEOAMC0929' at offset '657408'
udf: node fe/efe failed!
File "/MAKEMKV/AACS/DUPLICATE/ContentHash001.tbl" was skipped
Error 'Scsi error - ILLEGAL REQUEST:INVALID FIELD IN CDB' occurred while reading 'BD-RE HL-DT-ST BD-RE BU40N 1.03 MOEOAMC0929' at offset '655360'

File "/MAKEMKV/AACS/DUPLICATE/ContentHash000.tbl" was skipped

But then the stubborn person that is me ran it again without doing anything different and it ran perfectly from start to finish. The drive I have is the Verbatim 43888 USB slim drive. Is that just a bad choice and would I be better served with a different drive?

Thanks

In theory, the Verbatim 43888 drive variant containing the BU40N is fine. I don't know whether its firmware is ideal for LibreDrive though. Someone on this forum should be able to tell you whether or not you should reflash its firmware.

MakeMKV needs to handle the disk's bus encryption before it can process it. For UHD disks, this means enabling LibreDrive correctly, even when the Unit Keys are already known.
