Fast and Furious 4K

Post by icebreaker374 »

Anybody else having a problem ripping any 4K discs of the Fast and Furious set? I got the first one to work on BR but the UHD disc crashes at about the 25GB mark. Currently ripping again rn if it fails again i'll update the post with the error code.

Error code for fast 7 but the rest of my discs are to the same effect just a different offset:

The source file '/BDMV/STREAM/00096.m2ts' is corrupt or invalid at offset 11506870272, attempting to work around
Hash check failed for file 00096.m2ts at offset 11541276672, file is corrupt.

I'm also having trouble with F&F discs. I bought the 4k 8-movie collection.
My first set I was able to rip movies 1-4, 7-8. I had trouble ripping #5 and #6.

I exchanged the set for a new one. Still can't rip disc #5 or #6.

Did you resolve yours?

I attempted to rip with a BU40N and an Asus 16D1HT (flash to look like an NS60).
I can't even index these discs.

:(

Sorry for digging up an old thread but having a similar issue with the 8-movie 4K collection that was sealed for several years since i purchased it. 1st 4K disc gets to about 25G and drive starts struggling. The second disc gets to about the same place and starts doing the same thing although I let this one continue and it eventually finished.

I haven't attempted any others in the set yet. I did clean the 1st disc because it did not look the cleanest even new but now it just stops once the error section is reached instead of continuing to attempt to get through. My read speeds were dropping all the way to zero with an estimated remaining time of 10 hours. I put the disc in my Panasonic UB9000 and skipped around the disc with no issues but I didn't watch the whole movie so there may some issue I missed.

I'm using a LG WH16NS40 flashed to the NS60 Libre enabled. I've done roughly 100 discs in the last couple of weeks with no issues until I got to this set.

Should i get a Pioneer drive since they supposedly handle problem discs better? Has anyone else experienced the problems above?

Finally I cleared the log and it will just stop now after a short period of hitting the problem area. Does makeMKV keep an internal history error anywhere else so if it encounters a similar problem with the same disc it will quit?

Has anyone been able to successfully rip the 4k Fast & Furious 8 movie collection?

This collection is by no means new. But I just tried ripping the first 3 movies just now and they all resulted in TGZ dumps, which I have sent to svq@makemkv.com.

I tried searching to see if any of the tgz files had been previously submitted, but I've not figured out the best way to search for movie titles on this forum. In case anyone's wondering here are the tgz files I've submitted (all in the last 30 mins).

Are you able to rip other 4K UHDs?

Do you see "Automatic HK downloading is disabled or failed" in your logs?

It is not uncommon for new pressings of existing titles to get new keys that need to be submitted.

I've been ripping my movie collection for about a month. Thus far I've been ripping discs that I've had for quite a while, all at least two years old. I've sucessfully ripped about 125, all 4k. Before today there have only been 5 that I haven't been able to rip with only two that resulted in a tgz dump. Occasionally I've gotten some 'OS Errors' and/or 'SCSI Errors' but I've been able to resolve those by either disconnecting and reconnecting my drive and/or rebooting my PC.

Before today the two that resulted in a tgz file are Braveheart (Steelbook) and The Bourne Supremacy. Braveheart will consistently start ripping fine and then it stalls at about 25GB; if I let it go it ultimately results in creation of a tgz file. I've not submitted this one because I've assumed since it was able to read and list out the contents of the disc, that my drive (LG BU40N) didn't like that particular disc; there are a couple minor scratches on the disc.

Then today I started on the F&F 8 movie collection, bought at least 2.5 to 3yrs ago. The first three all resulted in tgz files, without the drive even being able to show the contents of the disc; I'm still a newbie, but if it cant even display the contents of the disc I'm guessing it truly doens't have the correct hash key, which is why I submitted those tgz files.

Then to try something different I moved on to Star Wars: Attack of the Clones. Same thing with that one, a tgz file right off the bat. Then I really started getting suspicious. I disconnected my drive, rebootted my PC and reconnected the drive. Then Attack of the Clones worked without issue. When that completed I tried F&F 1 again and same result as original; tgz dump without being able to display the contents of the disc. Right now I have SW Phantom Menace ripping and it's going fine.

I don't like doing so because it can leave fine scratches, but I have cleaned every disc once it has given me issues. Normally this does the trick, but the F&F (the 3 that I've tried) movies all spit out a TGZ file right off the bat so it almost seems like the hash key is not available.

I do have the internet connection setting enabled so it can download hash keys, but I've not checked the logs for errors. I'll do that the next time it happens.

So now Phantom Menace just finished and I tried 2 Fast 2 Furious and now it is working fine. Will try Tokyo Drift (F&F3) next, and then go back to F&F1 if that works.

I'm hoping I've just been having technical issues today.

If you've been ripping other 4K UHDs, then your system can undoubtedly download the necessary hashed keys.

You're probably just (un)lucky that the necessary keys for your set of Fast & Furious movies haven't been submitted before. :)

Have you tried downloading the latest KEYDB.cfg file, copying it into MakeMKV's data directory (i.e. where MakeMKV also writes its TGZ dump files) and restarting MakeMKV?

I noticed something really strange that occurs with both F&F1 and F&F3. Also something I haven't mentioned is that those two discs take a long time, 3-5x longer than normal just to the point where you can open the disc. Then it progresses slowly through steps of parsing, decrypting, before ultimately failing and providing the tgz file.

First, as stated in a previous post I was able to get 2 Fast 2 Furious to rip without issue after disconnecting/reconnecting my BRD Drive and rebooting my PC. I was also able to rip F&F 4-8 without any of them giving me trouble. I did 6-8 back to back. As soon as Fate of the Furious completed I put F&F1 back in and again the same problem. Then I noticed I'm reaching the 30 days on the MakeMKV beta so I purchased and registered. After I registered I closed the app and reopened it, all while F&F1 was still in the drive.

When I reopened MakeMKV the disc spun up and very quickly went through opening the disc and displaying the contents, all in the time it takes most other discs. So then I got it ripping and it was progressing fine until it got about 27GB in and then the drive just seemed like it quit. The led wasn't flashing, nothing was being logged. So I stopped it, opened and closed the drive to start over. This time back to what it had been doing with F&F1 all along. Progressing very slowly through loading and parsing the contents and then ultimately failing and providing the tgz.

That's when I noticed something in the logs. Normally when you click to open the drive and it parses and lists the contents, the first thing in the log is "Using LibreDrive mode..." followed by "Using direct disc access mode", But with F&F1 and F&F3 it skips the LibreDrive step and goes straight to direct access mode. Then at the end of the log after the tgz dump is listed it says "LibreDrive compatible drive is required to open this disc - video can't be decrypted".

Of course all of this is with the same drive. I wonder with with these two discs it skips the "Using LibreDrive mode" at the beginning?
