I'm ripped my 4k 'Joker- Folie à Deux' to MKV today and the folder containing the MKV files is over 136gb yet the disc is only 88gb and the backup is 87gb. The MKV rip included only English audio. Shouldn't the MKV be smaller or similar in size as he original source? Why is it over 50% larger?
I'm new to the hobby of backing up my disc collection.
I'm using the latest version of MakeMKV on a windows 11 computer. My disc reader is LG slim BD-RE BU40N, firmware version 1.04.

I don't have that disc so I can only speculate. Are there two copies of the movie in the .mkv files produced?

I have the exact same issue, there seem to be 2 copies of the same movie on some 4k blu rays although i'm not sure if theres any differences. I'm trying to rip the lord of the rings movies now and just doubled all of them. I'm not sure which one is correct though. I also have the BD-RE B40N. Not sure if it's safe to delete one as this is my first time using makemkv

If one of the files has chapters and one does not, you probably want the one with chapter markers.

You guys really need to stop abusing optical drives do not copy the same movie 2+ times if you don't know the correct playlist
Do a full folder backup it's the yellow icon on top and check decrypt.
Then from there you can export all the playlists you want without it taking hours and killing optical drives
Honestly makemkv should detect this and say hmm backup is bigger than disc let's just backup the whole disc then from the backup give the users what they want
