Hello,
I have the opportunity to buy a Pioneer BDR-208D for cheap. Seller took it from a 2012 MacPro.
Pioneer firmware doesn't seem to have been updated to the evil new version. At least he hasn't done it himself.
From the Pioneer Youtube channel, it seems the 208D comes with no software. I want to burn pictures and text files (.odt, .pdf etc) onto my blu-rays as a storage option. Does LibreDrive allow me to do that?
Would MakeMKV and LibreDrive work on this drive? I can use the beta for free, right?
I only have a PC so I'd have to buy a SATA to USB adapter.
Sorry I'm quite ignorant.
Pictures of the drive information and label are attached below. Thanks in advance.
Is Pioneer BDR-208D LibreDrive compatible?

I'm sorry I think you misunderstood. According to the seller, there is 'no software on the drive.' I'm asking if there is any version of LibreDrive that is BDR-208D & Linux Mint compatible.MartyMcNuts wrote: ↑Thu Feb 20, 2025 11:12 pmPost the MakeMKV drive & libredrive info.smallmouse wrote: ↑Thu Feb 20, 2025 10:22 pmHello,

This drive isn't in the compatible models list but I did find a post about it on the forum from 2008: viewtopic.php?t=6441
I assume it worked then, does it work now?

No, I didn't misunderstand anything. Post the MakeMKV drive & libredrive info sections and we will tell you if it can be flashed to enable Libredrive and possibly UHD readability.
Cheers

Re: Is Pioneer BDR-208D LibreDrive compatible?
Thank you for your answer. Where would I find this information? Considering I don't have the drive on hand, it is still in the seller's possession (hundreds of kms away). What do I tell him to look for?MartyMcNuts wrote: ↑Fri Feb 21, 2025 12:42 amsmallmouse wrote: ↑Fri Feb 21, 2025 12:30 amI'm sorry I think you misunderstood. Yes, you need to open the drive in MakeMKV and post the information.smallmouse wrote: ↑Fri Feb 21, 2025 12:46 amThank you for your answer. Where would I find this information? Ask the seller to download and run MakeMKV and email you the info sections then post them here.smallmouse wrote: ↑Fri Feb 21, 2025 12:46 amThank you for your answer. Re: Is Pioneer BDR-208D LibreDrive compatible?
Ok, thank you for your answers. I ended up finding out how to see LibreDrive information. Sorry for making you repeat. I must have scoured the forum for ten hours yesterday.
I don't feel comfortable with asking the seller to download software and go through all that trouble if I end up not buying it. Not sure he'll accept. He did offer me to buy it and return it if not compatible but I don’t want to take that risk.
HOWEVER. I got another option which is LG BH16NS55 for ten more bucks. Manufactured in december 2015.
It will need to be flashed. I won't encounter the new Pioneer restrictions. Isn't that a better bet? But is it new enough?

Re: Is Pioneer BDR-208D LibreDrive compatible?
Yes, it can be flashed. It will run faster (up to 8x) but the pioneers (up to 4x) are smoother, quieter, very fast in disc recognition and has better precision and fault tolerance but this LG ist not the badest solution in my opinion.
Test it if you want.
