BluRay Subtitles / Handbrake

Post by crowt999 »

All,

When I rip a BLU with MakeMKV & all the default settings, The only subtitle choice when I try to add the subtitles is to burn them in. The Handbrake format H.265 Apple Video Toolbox allows subtitles to be added and not burned in when they come from an external SRT file. Anyone know if there is a setting in MakeMKV where I can take the subtitles from the Blu rip, and not have to burn them in?

Encode to an MKV file and you won't be forced to burn in the subtitles. MP4 files can only be forced to accept the subtitles on DVDs, and that's an exception (the rule is no graphic subtitles, but DVD subtitles can be forced in).

Thanks -- Was trying to avoid encoding first to MKV.

Cheers !
