Is MakeMKV installed (in the default location)? SDFtool Flasher is a front-end for the MakeMKV native flash utility. Met all the requirements detailed on the SDFtool Flasher page?
Oh god, I’m an idiot! I forgot to install MakeMKV! THAT was the problem. Once installed, it worked as it should. Thank you for pointing to me what essential part I forgot. (And sorry for the double-post, I was under the impression my message wasn’t sent the first time.)

Yes it worked not thanks.

What commands?
The directory path you used in your power shell script: Billy blahblah. We are sure that directory doesn't exist on your computer.

I see. But that was an example with the file locations on Billy's computer. Your computer had for sure another file location for the .bin files. You should have read the guide here thoroughly and on Windows use SDFToolFlasher which is the easiest way to do it. And you didn't follow the recommendation then what to flash. Call yourself lucky that you didn't screw up your drive regarding everything you did wrong. Fortunately you didn't try to flash a firmware of a slim drive but otherwise somebody can't make almost do more mistakes. In the future please don't do stuff anymore the way you do it.

I read the guide but I wasn't sure what it all meant. I'm stupid with computer stuff but I did it once before and I did it again. I downloaded the all you need firmware pack and the file for the NS60 was in there and it worked. My drive is the NS40 though so I'm not why I needed the NS60 file. I knew not to flash to a slim drive.

Alright. Ask upfront next time. Better safe than sorry.

You are welcome. Just be more prudent and cautious in the future. Asking for help upfront is not a weakness but wise.

Thought I'd let people know I was able to successfully flash a LG WH16NS40 with a UGREEN SATA to USB 3.0 Adapter Cable for 3.5 2.5 Inch SSD/HDD Hard Drives. $15.29. Third drive I've flashed now with the SDFTool Flasher. Took just a few minutes. Thank you Billycar11 and MartyMcNuts for making this a super simple process. First 2 drives I flashed were a LG WH14NS40 back in early 2022 flashed to WH16NS60 and a LG BP50NB40 I found a few weeks ago at Best Buy flashed to BU40N. It's nice to be able to watch my UHD discs on my PC now and rip files to use on Plex. I also have a Pioneer BDR-X13UBK I picked up for $12 that just needed the Blu-ray laser lens cleaned. Hopefully someday they'll be able to crack the Pioneer firmware encryption. Even if it never happens I still have a nice Blu-Ray drive/burner for super cheap.

I recently bought an external Verbatim drive to hopefully play 4k blu ray discs, it didn't work. I have read various threads/posts that discuss friendly UHD drives, and even offer lists!
However having read through various posts it suddenly occurred to me that my current blu ray reader/writer might in itself be suitable.
I have an LG BH 16NS40. No idea what year it is manufactured, as after 2015 seems to be important?
How do I find out? I guess I have to take my machine casing off to look at label/date on my blu ray drive?

Or is there another way of doing this from my pc desktop?

I am not attempting to flash until convinced I won't damage my current player.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Copy/paste the MakeMKV Drive Info/LibreDrive Info (right-hand pane) here & someone will be able to advise.
