External unit with HDMI & USB connections

Post by Jango »

Hello , I am looking for an external unit reader which should be compatible with MakeMKV and any DVD, BR and UHD format, which sports both HDMI out and USB-C.
This would be a perfect unit also to play discs when attached to a TV. I don't need a burner. Impossible? I leave in Italy

HDMI out is not possible. You can play via PC / Laptop with HDMI out or you can rip the discs and then play with a player feeding your TV e.g. NVIDIA Shield, Oppo Clone etc.

This works out of the box without flashing for UHD.

Only if it's not the LG BU40N version!! If so, it will require flashing.
Cheers :D

Understood Marty. Until now no Verbatims 43888 with the LG drive have surfaced in Europe, however. But it might be just a matter of time.

I ordered the Verbatim 43888 last week from Amazon Sweden, it arrived on Thursday. Mine has the Pioneer drive with firmware UD04 version 1.14. It was indeed LibreDrive out of box and I successfully ripped Creed 2 in 4K. 🫡

No. Not unless you can get the seller to show you a picture of the bottom of the box.

Well, I've bought the unit! How can I test, once delivered, if it works without flashing?

I am confused since in your previous post you have stated that the above LG unit will not require flashing!

Until now the Verbatim in EU always contained a Pioneer drive. In Australia just recently one surfaced with a LG drive. I haven't seen one in EU. So your chances are very high you get a Pioneer.
