Stop MacOS from Asking To Access External Drive

Post by psycoperl »

Is there a way in MacOS 15 to stop having it ask to allow MakeMKV to access the Bluray Drive after each disk is inserted?

Each time I change the disk in the bluray drive and go to rip the disk, MakeMKV/MacOS prompts to allow access to external device/

In macOS 15 (Sonoma), the system introduces stricter security measures around application access to external devices, like Bluray drives. To stop macOS from asking for permission every time you insert a new disk, you can grant permanent access to MakeMKV for the Bluray drive. Here's how to do it:

### Steps to Allow Permanent Access:
1. **Go to System Settings**:
- Click the Apple menu in the top-left corner.
- Select **System Settings**.

2. **Navigate to Privacy & Security**:
- Scroll down and select **Privacy & Security**.

3. **Check Removable Volumes Permissions**:
- Under the Privacy section, locate **Files and Folders**.
- Look for **MakeMKV** in the list of apps.
- Ensure it has the necessary permissions to access **Removable Volumes** or **External Devices**.

4. **Adjust Full Disk Access** (if needed):
- In **Privacy & Security**, select **Full Disk Access**.
- If MakeMKV isn’t already listed, click the **+** button and add it from your Applications folder.
- Toggle the switch to enable Full Disk Access.

5. **Restart MakeMKV**:
- After adjusting permissions, close and reopen MakeMKV to ensure the changes take effect.

### Notes:
- If the above steps do not resolve the issue, you may need to check the specific drive's permissions. Some drives may be treated differently by the system due to how they're recognized.
- Keep macOS and MakeMKV updated to ensure compatibility with the latest security protocols.

If the issue persists despite these adjustments, consider reaching out to MakeMKV's support forums or macOS support for further troubleshooting.
