Hi Everybody,

Please help me out here, I just bought this week the same Pioneer drive (as the member above) with the 1.02 firmware, but according to the Friendly drives Team, to rip 4K Blurays I need to buy ( a pricey) Leowo Software suite, alone MakeMKV wont rip 4K??? funny because I just read something different by RemasterRichie. Can some please explane this to me? Knowing that I will be very Happy with the Pioneer but it surprises me dat it wont rip or copy 4K UHD with only MakeMKV.... and have to buy a other expensive software to make this happen. best regards Alex
who told you you need leowo?
that software is a scam and rip off of makemkv with a reskin. we dont talk about that here. do not support them.
makemkv can rip 4K with pioneers you dont need that other software its about the firmware on the drive post your makemkv drive info i will tell you if it will work or not.

Is it expensive? Yes!
Does it work out of the box? Yes!
Did I wish I had this information before researching for 100 years and buying multiple drives? YES!
Blu Rays? You Bet, 4K UHD 4K Blu Rays with HDR? 1000% Yes =)
Even DVDs? Confirmed =)

Hi All, Jan 2023 here, and if your rediscovering your movies via 4K like the rest of these amazing users on the forum, this drive is the ultimate beast with MakeMKV if your on a Mac.

Connects via USB C or USB A, it's external, super slim, Mac OSX Compatible, no need to worry about firmware or anything it just works out of the box. Connect it, Open MakeMKV, and you know the rest.

Thanks all!

I will recieve the Pioneer somewhere the next coming days, I will let you know and make a print screen.
Here is a part of the message, still looking where they said "No 4K Ultra"

"This firmware supports MakeMKV, AnyDVDHD & the Leawo Prof. Media All-in-one Pack. However, your drive will only support AnyDVDHD if MakeMKV is installed"

thx for the feedback

Hi Everyone,

I'm very new to ripping, having only ripped some of my DVD movies using MakeMKV over the last few days, which has mostly been successful. I'm also new to the different types of movies (e.g. DVD vs Bluray vs 4K Bluray).

Prior to stumbling on this forum, I ordered a Pioneer with an almost identical model number stated by the OP (BDRXS07TUHD - the only difference is the additional T) from Amazon Australia, with the intention of ripping my standard 1080p bluray movies (some include 3D versions). The order won't arrive until Wed 13 Nov, so thankfully I will be able to return if needed.

After seeing the Ultimate UHD Drives Flashing Guide Updated 2024 topic, I'm now concerned this drive won't enable me to rip my bluray movies. (Yes, I should have done more research before ordering! :D ) The topic refers to UHD, which I understand to mean 4K Blurays. I don't have these, nor do I intend to buy any. Does the issue with Pioneer firmware only affect ripping UHD movies? Or will Pioneer's firmware also prevent me from ripping my standard bluray movies?

Many thanks for your help.

Many thanks for your quick response. Given the uncertainty about the firmware (e.g. I probably won't know unless I unbox it etc), I think I will follow your advice regardless: return the Pioneer and buy direct from Marty.

hi, so when i read your post correctly i also
should return my drive?
here is the drive info makemkv spits out:

Laufwerksinformation
OS-Gerätename: F:
Aktuelles Profil: DVD-ROM

Produkt: BD-RW BDR-XS07U
Revision: 1.03
Serienummer: CIDL007833WL
Firmware-Datum: 2023-01-06
Markierungen der Bus-Verschlüsselung: 13

LibreDrive Information
Status: Possible, not yet enabled
Drive platform: Pioneer RS8E21
Firmware version: ID05

i am a little confused by the line "Status: Possible, not yet enabled"
btw is it normal that this drive makes horrible sounds while scanning a DVD?

thanks for guiding me.

i am from germany and here it seems not that easy to get hands on drives from recommended sellers, either they are US AU only or they come from UK which is a nightmare when it comes to shipping and tax. i already emailed asmcom (i hope i wrote that correct) but he never responds. :.(
because i wasn't sure about the pioneer i also ordered a second hand LG Electronics WH16NS60 with Firmware 1.01, not sure about that either...
it all costs a fortune^^. i feel a little lost at the moment xD.

My first goal is to backup my DVD's(X-Files,StarTrek,Seinfeld, +...) to make them watchable on TV through my NAS. Beeing UHD ready for the future would be nice, of course.

If the LG is ok and it's working as it should i will return the pioneer as you mentioned. As far as i read the LG with fw 1.01 should be fine?

The Verbatim 43888 has a Pioneer UD04 inside it that works out of the box. It is generally available in Europe. It isn't the best drive, but it is probably better than the LG you mentioned.

Thanks mentioning that. I saw one at saturn.. it’s pretty affordable compared to the other two :D
And @Billycar11 can flash it with no problem?

Please confirm that this one is the correct model:

The 43888 does not require flashing. It works with MakeMKV right out of the box.

I believe the one you linked is the 43890, which is not the same thing. I think on the page you linked, it would be the '4K Slimline Blu-ray Writer' that is the 43888 model.

Hi Marty, i am sorry for you but the big retailers pushed out the 43888 for 102€ shipping included.
I appreciate your service.
