I did a quick search but didn't see this drive info come up for support. Here's my details:

Drive Information
OS device name: K:
Manufacturer: PIONEER
Product: BD-RW BDR-XS07U
Revision: 1.03
Serial number: [redacted]
Firmware date: 2023-01-06
Bus encryption flags: 13
Highest AACS version: 78

LibreDrive Information
Status: Possible, not yet enabled
Drive platform: Pioneer RS8E21
Firmware version: ID05

I currently cannot rip UHDs - any chance to get this drive supported?

Thanks!
Too new. Pioneer has deliberately crippled their drives for MakeMKV. Maybe, someday?

Your drive's firmware is too new and can't be fixed.

Nope. Can't as the firmware is too new. Must be pre Dec 2022. Return it if you can!
Cheers :D

Hi, I bought a used ASUS SBW-06D2X-U that was already enabled for reading regular BDs, which works great.
However, it does not read 4K UHD discs, which I thought it would as it supports BDXL.
Can the drive be updated/modified to read UHD discs? The tech jargon on the forum is too much for me to comprehend  :D

Code: Select all

Drive Information
OS device name: G:
Current profile: BD-ROM
Manufacturer: ASUS
Product: SBW-06D2X-U
Revision: 1.10
Serial number: [REDACTED]
Firmware date: 2017-04-18
Bus encryption flags: 1B
Highest AACS version: 70

LibreDrive Information
Status: Enabled
Drive platform: RS8510
Firmware name: PIONEER BDR-US03
Firmware type: Original (unpatched)
Firmware version: 1.10/ID22
DVD all regions: Yes
BD raw data read: Yes
BD raw metadata read: Yes
Unrestricted read speed: Yes
Many thanks in advance!

I'm really angry with Pionner, I have a BDR S12 UHT

Received with 1.01 firmware and looked for firmware (2 years ago) it was 1.01, it's was great

Was patched for MakeMKV i was happy, then looked at pionner site to update it, descriptions of upgrades only mention "improve media compatibility" ok ...

Now it's on 1.04 and locked with encrypted firm ...
Bought a BU40N for 30 € but it was really a scandalous move from Pioneer to not tell firmware upgrade won't be revertable after 1.03 in patch note, and not telling firmware ware encrypted since 1.04 ..

Kept the drive in case some time it began able to do his job (and now i can't even just read BD UHD on PC like intel deprecated SGX instruction, i'm obliged to rip my BR with BU40N to read them even if i legally purchased them u_u

@mike

I have a pioneer bdr-212-EBK with firmware 1.05.. You mentioned somewhere in this post that it might be possible to downgrade the firmware? If so how is that done?

And my second question is can my drive be added to libredrive, it states possible but not enabled.
I do have the following firmware's for this drive available (from pioneer):
BDR-212EBK_ULBK_FW101EU
BDR-212_ULBK_EBK_FW103EU
BDR-212_ULBK_EBK_FW104EU
BDR-212_ULBK_EBK_FW105EU

No. This firmware after Dec. 2022 doesn't allow crossflashing.

@coopervid

No means no downgrade possible?
Okay i'll understand that it is encrypted. My drive came with 1.05 so to bad.

But libredrive should be possible so i hope mike will/can add it?
Or will this never happen because of the encryption?

This is what mike said on page 4

You can't downgrade either as it just tells you your firmware is newer.

This could be (technically) bypassed. As of today there is zero need, but still...

All of which was superseded by Pioneer firmware update February 2023, where Mike states:
As many of you have noticed, Pioneer released a mass firmware update for almost all drives. The firmware date is around December 2022 and release date is around February 2023. The sole purpose of this update is to disable LibreDrive and unofficial firmware flashing tools such as DVRtool.
