Universal Classic Monsters 4K ultra HD: volume key unknow

Post by markofwolves » Mon Oct 07, 2024 11:55 am

Hello. I just bought the new Universal Classic Monsters 4K ultra HD box with 8 movies. Only one works (Creature from the Black Lagoon) for all the others I have this error: The volume key is unknown

Image

In the options the internet connection is active and I downloaded the new keydb.cfg and copied it to the .MakeMKV folder.
How can I solve? I I attach 3 .tgz file.

Thanks for the support.

Did you send the .TGZ files to svq@makemkv.com, so they can be processed? If not, do so - posting them here does no good. Posting the NAMES of the files lets others know you've submitted them, however.

You could also download the latest KEYDB.cfg file, copy it into MakeMKV's data directory (i.e. where MakeMKV also writes its TGZ dump files) and restart MakeMKV. I believe all of these disks have complete entries in KEYDB, although you should obviously still email your TGZ dump files to svq@makemkv.com as well :).

I thought the files could be attached. I'll send them to the email then.
I downloaded the cfg file but nothing changed.

Back in the days when the program author was here several times a day, it didn't make a big difference. But it works faster with email, and doesn't fill the board's upload limit as quickly. :)

All that anyone on this side is worried about is the 4-digit code at the end that identifies your particular version of the disk. There can be dozens of them, depending on which video. Or there can be only ONE (to use a highlander reference).

Hmm, that doesn't sound right... Are you using MacOS or Linux? Because in that case, the file name must literally be KEYDB.cfg rather than keydb.cfg, because the file systems are case-sensitive for these OSs.

Alternatively, have you tried updating the KEYDB.cfg file since you attached your TGZ dumps to this forum...?

I' m using windows 11 and I downloaded the cfg in English version from here: http://fvonline-db.bplaced.net/
It' s the first time that this problem happens to me. The strange thing is that of the 8 movies, one works (the creature from the black lagoon).

I downloaded the latest cfg, deleted the private data file and now Dracula is working.
Is it possible that the latest cfg was updated with the keys from these new disks? Or that the problem was the private data file?

Yes, I suspect someone managed to extract the Volume ID (VID) metadata from your three TGZ dump file attachments, and then used them to calculate your disks' VUKs. AFAICT all three of those disks now have VUKs in KEYDB, which means that MakeMKV should now be able to decrypt them.

In fact, only the 3 that I uploaded are working. I would also like to upload the others here and in the following answer.

MKB20_v76_The_Invisible_Man_9D4B.tgz
MKB20_v76_The_Bride_of_Frankenstein_C359.tgz

The last two:

MKB20_v76_The_Wolf_Man_B7B1.tgz
MKB20_v76_The_Mummy_E51F.tgz

I removed the attached files, and left just the file names. If you want the author to do anything about the TGZs, you'll have to email them to svq@makemkv.com or they'll sit until he comes back to the forum... Emailing them speeds the process.

All 4 of those discs have now been added to the public keydb (not by me).

Whilst I always recommend emailing disc dumps to the SVQ address, allowing dumps to be included as forum attachments can really speed up the process. Particularly when, as MrPenguin noted, the media key for a disc is already present in the keydb and the VUK can be readily calculated.

Yes, I was about to write it now. If you think about it, it didn't take long, also because the files have been removed.
