Godzilla & Kong New Empire

Thank you for your help and time. I have used Makemkv happily for years and it allows me to take full films on the tour bus without having to bring the originals to get stolen our misused. However ... I just tried to rip Godzilla & Kong new empire 4K Bluray and it is saying "The volume key is unknown for this disc - video can't be decrypted
Failed to open disc"
What do I do about this please ?

If you're interested in the 4K UHD version, you should read the UHD section of the forum, where there is already a topic for this disk.

FYI I have supplied a dump file already today.
I went to the UHD forum and there is a post saying somebody else sent a dump file beginning of June and he can now access the disc but ...no explanation how he did that.
Do I have to wait for a reply to my email with the dump file ?

There won't be a reply to the email, other than the rip will begin working.

That said, you need to make sure you have downloading of the file enabled; Many people have an issue with that, since a lot of internet providers try to block even resolving the host name to download it. Mike says that's fixed, but...

Is there a message in your log about pulling the HK data file? Was it successful?

Many thanks for all your help and patience.

I have checked to see if there are any blocks on firewall etc and there are not.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the latest version of MakeMkv
I have checked the log and there is nothing that says "Is there a message in your log about pulling the HK data file? Was it successful?
I cannot see one.
I have my access internet turned on but was not sure what to put in the proxy server window so put 8.8.8.8 like ny DNS server ?

I have sent the .tgz file a couple times to the email you provide.
I have been on the UHD instructions and followed them all the best I can.
The drive is ripping other UHD discs just not this one.
Any help would be brilliant please

DNS server can't be used as a proxy server in 99.999999% of the cases.

Your MakeMKV configuration should have, under General, "Enable Internet access" checked. Expert mode should also be checked for the most control. Proxy server should have nothing in it, unless you KNOW you use a proxy server for general internet access (most people do not).

When you start MakeMKV, it will usually check to see if there is an update; This is a "first test" of your internet connection. If that fails, you are being blocked at some level.

The link in this message should still work, if you are getting a message about downloading the Hash Key file failing. A number of popular DNS systems have specific blocks in against where the hash keys are kept, but using the IP will get it for your. You can comment the line out if you do not want it most of the time; it only needs to be active when MakeMKV is looking for a new hash key.

I have taken the numbers out of the DNS SERVER window., It is empty.
I have the Enable Internet Access checked
I have expert mode checked.
You say "When you start MakeMKV, it will usually check to see if there is an update" .... how do I know this? Will it say checking update or will it report checking update?
As I have the very latest version 1.17.7 will it check for an update ?
As you say this is the first indication as to whether you are being blocked or not ...how do I know if it is checking for an update ?
I religiously followed the instruction in the "this message" link you provided
I added the line to my host file and I checked it and it now same as in the tutorial
I changed the _private_data.tar to _private_data.tar.rat and it wrote a brand new _private_data.tar file
I turned everything off - restarted the Mac and drive and ... it stills says
The volume key is unknown for this disc - video can't be decrypted

Is this didc key still not available or I am still doing something wrong. Once again thank you for your patience with this newbie '-)

Over in the other thread, it looks like BDEE is working but 5052 is not.

What is the full name of the .tgz file your MakeMKV has made for this title?

I checked that thread again this morning and somebody said that their UHD ripped.
I just want to copy mine to .mkv so tried it again this evening ... FANTASTIC ! It is ripping
