Accidentally flashed LG WH16NS40 with LG BP50NB40 firmware

Post by Lokin »

I recently upgraded my my PC to Windows 11. My LG WH16NS40 was working great with MakeMKV when I had Windows 10. When I upgraded to Windows 11, I executed the SDFtool Flasher v1.3.5 application and I tried flashing my LG WH16NS40 with the WH16NS40.bin, but I realized I chose the wrong bin file. I accidentally chose HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BP50NB40-NB50-1.03-NM00800-212005070917.bin file. Now my PC is reading my LG WH16NS40 blu-ray drive as a LG BP50NB40, and I can't do anything. It wont even eject. After several hours, I am at a loss. PLEASE HELP! How do I flash my LG WH16NS40 with the correct bin file?

You can recover it by using sdfgui select your drive
Select recover choose the wrong fw you flashed
Then select wh16ns60 1.02mk

Or you can email me for help see below

Are not the full step-by-step directions. I selected recover and chose the wrong fw I flashed as Billy stated. My LG WH16NS40 flashes and looks hopeful, but SDFtool_flasher shows me the HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BP50NB40-NB50-1.03-NM00800-212005070917 still. I then select read and then write and choose the HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_WH16NS60-1.02-NM00100-211810291936.bin file from the folder mk-firmware-pack-20190911, but I am still getting the error message. What I am doing wrong?

As I understand it, in order to use the recover mode of the SDFtool, you have to select two firmwares before you hit the flash button. First you have the select the wrong firmware that you accidentally put on the drive. Then you have to select the right firmware you want to flash to. Then you hit start.

Nope. I am not good to go. wh16ns60 1.02mk is not allowing my LG WH16NS40 to read any blu-ray disks. I put a blu-ray disk in my LG WH16NS40 and MakeMKV and it spins and spins, and then comes back No disc. Why can't MakeMKV read any disks?

some times drives die when they are flashed wrong not usually but it more common on the slim drives but yours is not

anyway steps to try are
power off the drive for 5 mins if external unplug power if internal turn off pc and unplug power to many new sleep modes keep some stuff awake.
after that boot up and reboot because of stupid windows fast start up btw i recommend disabling this as a shutdown with this is not a shut down its hibernate this really throws things off for lg and asus drives when they get in the weird mode they like to get in. on an ssd fast startup makes no difference its sometimes even slower.

after that tell us all the details how is this drive hooked up sata external adpter model ect...

if all comes back good after that and the drive still no work well its probably dead.

My LG WH16NS40 is officially dead. I tried everything, and nothing works. My LG WH16NS40 is not even reading a blank BD-R disk. I went on LG website and tried to flash the WH16NS40 using their BD-RE__WH16NS40__1.05_220105 application, and it was reading the WH16NS40, but it gave me a Invalid ATAPI error message, so I have given up. I just spent the $65 and purchased a new LG WH16NS40 from Amazon. This sucks!

Try flashing with sdf GUI one more time with included bootloader checked flash to wh16ns60 1.00 or 1.02mk

Also you didn't tell us how this drive is connected.

I have been on wild goose chases before because the adapter they are using does not support optical drives and they never tested it before flashing so they just assume the flash broke it.
