USE AND RECOGNITION OF PIONEER BDR-XD08EMB-S IN WINDOWS 11 PRO

Post by Martinjay »

Hello Everyone,

Firstly, apologies for any meandering and posting inconsistencies, but I'm a newbie to all of this and I definitely need all the help I can get .

I recently upgraded my computer/system to Windows 11 Pro, intending to digitise my music and DVD/Blu Ray disk collections and then stream via a NAS. Equipment is now in position. CD's were ripped some while ago under my previous system to FLAC files and have now be successfully uploaded to a QNAP NAS. Now wish to continue the project by ripping and storing the DVD/Blu Ray disk collection and have purchased a PIONEER BDR-XD08EMB-S from Amazon for this purpose. HOWEVER....

Big (for me) problems with the drive and getting any kind of recognition of it by Windows 11 Pro, let alone using it. Supplied drive is currently connected to the PC via USB C/USB A supplied cable BUT does not show under File Explorer side panel or This PC screen. Shows in Control Panel/Device Manager with yellow triangle warning and message

"Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39) Object Name not found." Which don't understand.

Under (Device Entry)Properties I get the following:

"Driver File Details : C:\Windows\System32\drivers\cdrom.sys
Version: 10.0.22621.1.1 (WinBuild 160101.0800)"

And under Events:

Timestamp and description:

"14/06/2024 18:54:32 Device Configured (oem.129inf)

Information

Device USBSTOR\CdRom&Ven_PIONEER&Prod_BD-RW__BDR-XD08U&Rev_1.02\1453070812800167&0 was configured.

Driver Name: oem129.inf
Class Guid: {4d36e965-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}
Driver Date: 06/21/2013
Driver Version: 6.3.9600.16384
Driver Provider: Microsoft
Driver Section: cdrom_install
Driver Rank: 0xFF0006
Matching Device Id: GenCdRom
Outranked Drivers: cdrom.inf:GenCdRom:00FF0006 cdrom.inf:GenCdRom:00FF2002 oem129.inf:GenCdRom:00FF2002
Device Updated: false
Parent Device: USB\VID_08E4&PID_017A\1453070812800167"

Again, I don't understand the information.

Can anyone please tell me:

How can I get my Windows 11 Pro system to recognise the device in File Explorer and the OS as a working device?
Where can I get a driver that will enable the device to work with Windows 11 Pro (I can't see anything that looks like a driver file on the Pioneer website)?
Provide idiot proof granular instructions on how to install the driver into the Windows 11 Pro ecosystem so that it finds it when required?

Many thanks for your patience, and in advance for your assistance.

Regards,

Martin

I'd return it if I were you. An optical drive that connects via USB 'should just work' on just about any computer these days. If it doesn't, then something is wrong.

Hi,

Many thanks for the suggestion. I’ll give it a little more time to see if there are any possible solutions posted here before possibly contacting a local tech repair person and then finally giving in and admitting you’re right. I may also try suggestions to Microsoft to get a fix put out, but I do think it’s really poor in this day and age that plug ‘n’ play is still a wished for fantasy.

Thanks again.
