watching a blu-ray disc

Post by hiacedrifter »

Is there a way to use makemkv/vlc to watch a blu-ray, from the disc rather than ripping it? I have a few discs with numerous extras etc which I would like to watch as they are, without ripping.

Thanks, I've checked and it was already enabled.

When i try to play a blu-ray in vlc I get an error:

Blu-ray error:
This Blu-ray Disc needs a library for AACS decoding, and your system does not have it.
Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'bluray:///E:\'. Check the log for details.

Any ideas? I did try a solution online ages ago which involved downloading a file and placing in a certain folder, but that didn't work.

In the Windows version of VLC be sure to select "Open Disc" and that the Blu-Ray (not DVD) button is selected. Then just select the optical drive. You may need to have JAVA installed to view the disc extras.

I may be reaching here, but.... does your VLC installation include libaacs.dll?

I don't use Windows myself, but I suspect these people do.

That library (and those instructions) ring a bell ... that must be what i tried previously. i will persevere! At the mo i have a sony blu-ray player on my desk, next to my PC which has a blu-ray drive!
