Can't Flash BD-RE-BP40NB40

Post by ThirdAndTwo »

Hi All -

First off thank you for the hard work and dedication that has gone into this project! I truly am grateful

I have an LG BP50NB40 NS52 slim bluray drive that I am trying to upgrade to UHD. I have run the flash command, and it appears to be successful, but the firmware seems to not be updated. This is the output from my most recent attempt:

Code: Select all

Reading input file /Users/AUser/Downloads/mk-firmware-pack-20200720/MK/HL-DT-ST/BP60NB10/HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BP60NB10-1.02-NM00800-212005070935.bin
Flashing flags = 0x1 : 0 0 0 1 : ---- ---- ---- BOOT
Current Drive ID: HL-DT-ST_BD-RE_BP50NB40_1.03_212107081603_SIK07M9UF2438
Using USB chipset workaround for Desktop drive handshake
Ready to write drive flash memory.
Type "yes" to continue, "no" to abort
yes
Operation started: Sending flash image to drive
 100% Operation finished
Operation started: Programming flash
 100% Operation finished
Done successfully
When I rerun the f -l command this is the output:

Code: Select all

./makemkvcon f -l
Found 1 drives(s)
00: /IOBDServices/DB07C94F
I am working on a Mac computer so I can't use the GUI. I would appreciate any assistance possible. Thanks in advance

LG BP50NB40 NS52 drives require flashing multiple times; you can't just flash it once from the factory firmware it comes with to the recommended firmware at the end. You have to flash it to each step in the chain. The link Billycar11 posted highlights the necessary multistep flash process required.
