I doubt you have 3.01. The oldest I'm aware of is 3.02. Most likely your came with 3.10.

Take the ASUS flasher and flash 3.10 MK from here:

If it has 3.01 it's already uhd friendly which means it'll work with libredrive. If it has 3.10 then you'll need to flash the mk 3.10 firmware to make it uhd friendly and compatible with libredrive. You can check with makemkv what's on the drive and if it's compatible with libredrive.

I've bought a BW-16D1HT with MK 3.01 used on ebay.

Are there any reasons for an update to MK 3.10?

You should first do what SamuriHL has posted. Check the status window of Makemkv. If 3.01 it should be friendly as is w/o the need to be flashed.

I noticed with 3.02 the drive stays longer at slow speeds reading hard to read discs. 3.10 rips usually faster if there are no problems on the disc surface.

Now if all these firmwares have trouble with 3-layer UHD discs (>66GB) I suggest to flash the official firmware LG BH16NS60 1.02 which has much less trouble reading in those discs.
Be aware that then only Makemkv and AnyDVD can use the drive with this firmware. For best compatibility with all softwares you should stay on a friendly firmware like the ASUS 3.01 or 3.10.

Ok, thanks. I will test the ASUS after arriving with my trouble discs from the Middle-earth 4K Collection, with hope.
I need one of my favourite movies in 4K!!!!!! ;(

Without success with the 3.01. I will test it with 3.10 or BH16NS60 1.02.

Wash the discs with liquid soap and warm water. Dry with a paper towel. Then again wipe the dry disc with a microfiber cloth as used for cleaning glasses.

I tried, without success.

Error like: Die Quell-Datei '/BDMV/STREAM/00002.m2ts' ist defekt oder ungültig bei Offset 30934167552. Es wird versucht, dies zu umgehen

Or "to many hash tags checks failed" ... or "to many av synchronization issues...."......

Friend watches the 4K on his hardware player without problems. The surface is clean like a baby bottom.

But this is off topic here. If the ASUS has the same problem, I'll buy another movie set with another discs and'll try again.

Thanks again, Coopervid.

Or better yet ditch the Asus completely and get a Pioneer from one of the sellers on here.

Sam is right. The Pioneers are way better readers (and better burners if you still burn). Either get one from the sellers or since I assume by your error message that you are located in Germany get this Verbatim 43888. It contains a Pioneer UD04 and works right out-of-the-box.
But be aware that some have trouble if it is underpowered by the USB connection. It is recommended to get also a powered USB hub if you have such issues.

Oh, thanks again, you two.

The Verbatim looks fine, if I'd known, I'd never bought the ASUS. The Verbatim is only 10 Euro more. Ok, let's see, what the ASUS can do. Without success, it will selled and the Verbatim get his chance.
