Shaw Brothers Box Set only pulls commentary audio

Post by MisterCheaps »

I'm trying to rip King Boxer from the Arrow Films Shaw Brothers box set. I ripped all of the audio tracks (and subtitles), but none of the subtitle tracks work, and the only audio track that works is the Commentary version. It also seems to be the only track in stereo, the rest show as Mono (but there's no audio when I select them). Does anyone have any ideas on how I could pull the English and Chinese tracks along with subtitles?

I don't have that particular title but this could be caused by a few different issues.

Firstly, interrogate the .mkv file using MediaInfo and verify that all the expected audio and subtitle tracks are actually present in the file.

If not, the problem will likely be with the rip. Sometimes separate playlists (.mpls files) are used for commentary, and sometimes MakeMKV mistakenly hides the main playlist, so it might seem like the wrong playlist is the only available option.

If all of the expected audio tracks are present, look at the parameters and codecs of the various tracks. It's possible that whichever player you have doesn't have the codec installed for the mono tracks and is choosing the next available track that it can play.

Also, open the file with MKVToolNix and check whether the commentary track is set as "Default" and/or "Forced", which will instruct your player to choose that track automatically.

You can also extract the subtitle tracks from the file and check whether they actually have content, sometimes even empty subtitle tracks still get ripped.
