The BDR-212-DBK has a plastic lens, and I have stress tested this model with 300 discs. This is a reason why I do not sell these drives. The failure rate is 12%, whereas the S12-XLT with a glass lens has less than a 1% failure rate. Please save your money.

Old post, but just wondering how can you tell if a Pioneer drive has a glass or plastic lens? Looked through the specs and can't see it anywhere for my 211ebk.

What kind of lens does the BDR-S13UBK have?
This drive is considered among top tier at present
TIA

I have tested hundreds of Pioneer drives, and I can honestly say the lens plastic or glass does not make a difference on new drives I have tested. Maybe several years later, it might; who knows. I have a BDR-S13UBK, and compared to the BDR-S12UHT, I can not see a difference in performance. I know Coopervid has been doing more advanced testing on burning and further advanced testing maybe this is a question for him as he is an expert in this area.

I confirm. The glass lens might be more precise for burning but for reading I don't see any difference. I understand as a seller you won't sell a drive that is compromized regarding in any direction. The 212DBK however is a good reader. Maybe not the best writer if that is important to you. Anyway - if you are still burning.. Read this. That is resolving most problems with most BD-R and BD burners.

Follow the guide for anything >25GB discs.

I do not have any parts or information on this drive yet as I do not stock this product.
Due to be released in Europe soon with newer firmware again that Pioneer are developing. I believe the next generation firmware coming soon will be more secure again. I am glad I have plenty of stock of drives with the older firmware.
The Europe launch has been delayed due to newer firmware being development with less vendor commands available and newer encryption on the way.

I just purchased a BDR-XS07UHD, but when I tested it with a UHD Disc that I previously ripped with my older ASUS BW-16D1HT it failed.
Looking at the drive information, I see that it reports LibreDrive as "Possible, not yet enabled"
The drive came installed with Firmware ID05. Do I hold on to it and hope things improve, or return it while I can? I was really looking forward to having a small slim, and portable drive vs my bulky internal drive in an External Enclosure, but I don't want to be out the cost of a drive that doesn't give me what I need.
I am newer to firmware flashing, and it makes me nervous. Looking for some advice.
Drive Information
OS device name: G:
Manufacturer: PIONEER
Product: BD-RW BDR-XS07U
Revision: 1.03
Serial number: CEDL012028UC
Firmware date: 2023-01-06
Bus encryption flags: 13
Highest AACS version: 77
LibreDrive Information
Status: Possible, not yet enabled
Drive platform: Pioneer RS8E21
Firmware version: ID05

Makemkv may support it eventually but it could be a while.
If you want a slim pioneer USB now that works I have them in stock ready to ship the xs07
