Encrypted files -> Decrypted files?

Post by flojo »

Can you rip files/iso encrypted, then decrypt as files/iso?

I'm using the latest makemkvcon and can't rip a few UHD discs but I can _seemingly_ copy the files in Dolphin without error. I want to keep the files or ISO, no remux or anything so if I can decrypt the files after copying... joy.

I get various errors on 2 drives, one gets "ILLEGAL REQUEST:INVALID FIELD IN CDB" all the time and the other gets something about code 178 or something. Simply, no joy with this Game of Thrones box set.

I'm not sure, how Dolphin copies, but most probably these files won't help you.

UHD's always have bus encryption, thus just copying the files from the disk won't ever help I'm afraid.

But if you make an encrypted backup with MakeMKV, you not only have not the problem with the Bus encryption but also should get a file discatt.dat or alike in the main directory of the backup folder. If you later open this file from within MakeMKV, you should be able to decrypt it, once MakeMKV knows how.

O.K., that makes sense. So, can I use makemkv without the --decrypt option then later decrypt _without_converting_ to .mkv? I've read that some people have had increased success this way when converting to .mkv but, again I don't want .mkv.

I'll take any Voodoo I can get right now :-/ Sadly, the discs are brand new thus the only options I have are trying a new and different copy of the box set or a new drive... neither of those seems like a hot option.

MakeMKV can't make MKV files from the BluRay if it cannot decrypt it. I assume you get the information, that the volume key is not known yet?

Apparently, people use the GUI without the decrypt option, then later decrypt the files into a .mkv using the "discattd.dat". I'd like to do the same, but I don't want to convert to a .mkv, I want to keep the files.

Does makemkvcon roll a pair of dice against the wall for success?

The ripping is very inconsistent. A disc I ripped 3 days ago without error no longer rips without throwing SCSI errors. The drive has ripped ~40 discs total and about 30 since it last ripped this identical disc. FWIW, this drive is a Asus

Addendum.

I started with 8 discs that wouldn't rip and after ~20 attempts on each disc, it was down to 3 discs. For those final 3 discs I tried around 50 times each... no luck. So, I guess the dice rolling is done by my crappy UHD drive (ASUS BW-16D1HT).

It appears that the "Game of Thrones: The Complete Collection [4K UHD]" has very low quality pressings. The labeling to these discs are like this GOTUHD_S?_D?_B?. https://www.amazon.com/Game-Thrones-Com ... B08CJLXT1M (season 7, disc 2 in particular is a mofo).

Since then I moved and I've ripped about 25 various UHD's without a problem.

old thread, but for libredrive compatible drives, one can have makemkv running, insert a disc, libredrive will be inserted and then do a raw copy of the disc. As libredrive prevents bus encryption from occuring.

This is useful if one wants to make a playable ISO and there are java protections, anydvd will generally decrypt / java deprotect a mounted aacs encrypted bluray iso (but not a css encrypted dvd iso)
