@betali: It should work if you use the newest version of Makemkv and you have Internet access enabled.

This drive will not read UHD discs as you require model number BDR-XD07TUHD. It might be possible at some stage in the future to flash this model to read UHD discs.

As far as I can see, nobody on the forum has mentioned the Pioneer BDR-XS07B-UHD drive (Japan only?) It is black, so perhaps the B simply refers to that (I've read that the silver Pioneer doesn't play friendly with MakeMKV). It works smoothly with BDs but I always get "LibreDrive compatible drive is required to open this disc - video can't be decrypted" when I try a 4K disc.

Drive Information
OS device name: J:
Current profile: BD-ROM
Manufacturer: PIONEER
Product: BD-RW BDR-XS07U {Why U and not B?}
Revision: 1.00
Serial number: [redacted]
Firmware date: 2019-01-07
Bus encryption flags: 1B
Highest AACS version: 35
LibreDrive Information
Status: Possible, not yet enabled
Drive platform: Pioneer RS8E21
Firmware version: ID69

I have downloaded all the firmware (1.01, 1.02, 1.03) but am not keen to use any of them yet, especially if the latest may disable LibreDrive and ruin my chances of using UHD discs. Any advice would be very welcome. (I'm new to MakeMKV)

See this post: viewtopic.php?p=129189#p129189

Did you see that message? Do you have a firmware dump in your data directory?

Your drive platform is listed as Pioneer RS8E21. According to the first post on this thread, the RS8XXX drive platform should be supported. However, I have not seen anyone post that their drive platform is RS8EXX. I've seen RS8FXX and RS8DXX and RS8600, among others.

Also, it is probably best to NOT update the firmware on your drive. Pioneer firmware update February 2023

I spoke too soon. Here are some people with a RS8E20 drive platform: viewtopic.php?p=133825#p133825

Thanks, dcoke22. With your reminder, I have now sent the dump file to support@makemkv.com. As for the platform, mine is identical to the one being used on this YouTube video: https://youtu.be/6JoJB3rt8kQ?list=TLPQM ... E-uw&t=508. They appear to have no problems with 4K discs. The only difference is that they have firmware 1.01 (which I have already obtained from a French archival site). So I was kind of hoping that an update to 1.01 (or even 1.02) would enable LibreDrive, especially as the SDF.bin seems to include my drive (as of 11 Feb 2022):
PIONEER-BD-RW__BDR-XS07U-1.00-D1E5568A-8E21ID05-20190107
PIONEER-BD-RW__BDR-XS07U-1.01-1534D764-8E21ID05-20200903
PIONEER-BD-RW__BDR-XS07U-1.01-32129473-8E21ID69-20200903
But no reference here to platform, I guess. So I will be patient. :)

im sure support will be added as its older.
but you could always update to 1.01 if you don't want to wait but waiting is alot less risky
