notice how dvd rips blow thru scratches but wow Bluray tempermental

Just got starting ripping all my discs.

Boy, my new pioneer 13UBK drives do great with scratched up DVD reads, but holy smokes do the Bluray and UHD discs have to be flawless to not see errors. Kind of a bummer how picky they seem to be. Some of the discs are in really good shape with maybe the faintest of a scratch but still hammers with read errors.

Oh well. I guess it just is what it is.

There is between 5x - 10x more data stored on a blu-ray than on a DVD. A UHD often has 2x more data than a blu-ray. All of those discs store their data in the same physical space. The means the exact same scratch on a UHD might destroy 20x more data than if it were on a DVD.

Treat your discs gently.

Ok. I guess it just is what it is. Appreciate the thoughtful post.

I am on firmware 1.03 and don’t want the latest firmware as that breaks libredrive.
