My samsung QLED can't process dolby TrueHD w/ATMOS - and when I plug my computer in and play it via VLC player it still doen't play ATMOS..
My panasonic UB420 Blu-Ray player can't play the ATMOS tracks either.
How do you all get the playback though?
How do you watch MKV files that have an ATMOS track?

Some of the Zidoo, Dune and Zappiti media players contain the Dolby VS10 firmware, so Dolby Vision is fully supported as well as HDR10 and 10+.TheMKVMaker wrote: ↑Sun Mar 12, 2023 5:05 amMy samsung QLED can't process dolby TrueHD w/ATMOS - and when I plug my computer in and play it via VLC player it still doen't play ATMOS..

Media players with the Realtek RTD1619DR chip have been available for a while now, and they can handle the Playback.

Re: How do you watch MKV files that have an ATMOS track?
For playing TrueHD with Atmos you need an Atmos decoder, be it onboard a tv, soundbar or surround processor/AVR. If Atmos isn't supported, you need at least a TrueHD encoder for the 2D flatbed part. I'm guessing your bluray player is capable of bitstreaming the Atmos track over HDMI though.
FYI (UHD) blu-ray discs have an embedded AC3 track in TrueHD for legacy reasons.

Reading your post I think you've misread Atmos for Dolby Vision?

Yes I did indeed, sorry I misread for Dolby Vision which the Dunes can do.ArArdin wrote: ↑Mon Mar 13, 2023 7:48 amFor playing TrueHD with Atmos you need an Atmos decoder, be it onboard a tv, soundbar or surround processor/AVR. The new Arcam receivers can decode Atmos such as the Arcram AVR 30, AVR20 & the AVR10.
I have the AVR 30 and I am very happy with it. Sorry I misread.
Dolby Atmos , IMAX Enhanced, Auro-3D & DTS:X 9.1.6 decoding. AVR 30
Dune, Zidoo or Zapitti for Dolby Vision and any of the new modern AV Receivers can do Atmos.
Hope we are right now.

Well I do have a panasonic UB420 hooked up to a Yamaha V6A, but it still doesn't play the ATMOS tracks.ArArdin wrote: ↑Mon Mar 13, 2023 7:48 amFor playing TrueHD with Atmos you need an Atmos decoder, be it onboard a tv, soundbar or surround processor/AVR. Quote from the DP-UB420 manual @ HDMI Advanced settings:
To enjoy BD-Video that supports Dolby Atmos® or
DTS:X®
Connect this unit to an AV amplifier or similar device that
supports it with an HDMI cable, and select the following
settings:
– Dolby Audio: “Bitstream”
– DTS/DTS-HD: “Bitstream”
– BD-Video Secondary Audio: “Off"

Re: How do you watch MKV files that have an ATMOS track?
Just one more thing Dolby Atmos sound can be transmitted through any HDMI cable, including HDMI 2.0. For equipment that can handle HDMI eARC, HDMI 2.1 cables are recommended, but HDMI 2.0 cables will work fine, the new HDMI 2.1 with an HDMI eARC port supports the Dolby TrueHD codec for lossless compression.ArArdin wrote: ↑Wed Mar 15, 2023 1:28 pmQuote from the DP-UB420 manual @ HDMI Advanced settings:

Re: How do you watch MKV files that have an ATMOS track?
I did do that - it still fails to play any audio.ArArdin wrote: ↑Wed Mar 15, 2023 1:28 pmQuote from the DP-UB420 manual @ HDMI Advanced settings:

For example, I have a Bladerunner 2049 Remux/direct 4K UHD that I'd ripped through make MKV.
When I play it on TV it won't play atmos, when I play in on the panasonic ub420, it won't play atmos - but when I put the 4K Blu-Ray in the UB420, it plays the atmos just fine.
Re: How do you watch MKV files that have an ATMOS track?
In my tests Panasonic UHD and Blu-ray players have no support for any HD audio in mkv files. Last time I checked there was no 24p output either. Support for mkv files is very poor. I mainly use devices running Kodi to play my mkv files, and get full pass through of HD audio, eg from a Vero or a Shield.
