I noticed some are selling Pioneer BDR-212EBK cross flashed to BDR-S12UHT to make it UHD friendly.
Is there guide availabe for to do it myself as I could not find one? I have such drive lying around and I would like to try.
There has not been a publicly released flasher for Pioneer drives as yet.
Cheers :D

For what in particular?

Reading beyond BD, no - that would require something that was made in LATE 2015 at least.

For reading JUST DVD and BD, it's already set up for that. I have one similar to your drive, and I use it for most everything.

I think LibreDrive is needed to read BD discs that has AACS v77 or higher.
Is this my misunderstanding?

Only in the event of "...so-called host revocation". It happens periodically & without LibreDrive, required a MakeMKV program update.

Does this error mean "host revoked"?

This error also occurs in v1.17.2

It can happen w/ any MakeMKV version. In the "old days" (pre-LibreDrive), a new AACS version required a MakeMKV program update. IF a disc contained a host key revocation, any perceived "bricking" was temporary, but also required a MakeMKV program update. LibreDrive bypasses the FW-imposed restrictions (as I understand it), w/out the new version release.

Path of least resistance would probably be to buy a compatible drive.

If a pioneer XD08 (should be UHD compatible) comes with firmware 1.00 is there a reason or a risk in upgrading firmware. Would anything speed up or make it more reliable? Any risks in future if firmware updates would ever lock out features?

Be careful. Only the XD08UMB-S is UHD compatible. If you can still get an older version I would recommend the BDR-XS07UHD which might be more affordable.

Hi a newbie here i was wondering if someone could help me.
I have been using MakeMkv for a while and LibreDrive has been working since i bought my new drive in February the drive is BD-RE ASUS SBW-06DX2-U 1.10.
I double checked the list at the start of this thread and it says its compatible with LibreDrive but just recently it has stopped working saying this 'Possible, not yet enabled'

Code: Select all

 Drive Information
OS device name: /dev/rdisk2
Current profile: BD-ROM
Manufacturer: ASUS
Product: SBW-06D2X-U
Revision: 1.10
Serial number: THDL182449WL
Firmware date: 2017-04-18
Bus encryption flags: 1B
Highest AACS version: 76

LibreDrive Information
Status: Possible, not yet enabled
Drive platform: Pioneer RS8511
Firmware version: ID22
I was wondering why it would work for all this time and now stop? if it would be possible to get it working again any help would be appreciated thanks

My System: Mac OS 10.13.6
Blu-ray Drive: BD-RE ASUS SBW-06DX2-U 1.10

In USA, the XD08UMB-S is easily available from Pioneer or Amazon for $140. I could not find a reliable retailer to get the XS07UHD.

My XD08UMB-S came with firmware version 1.00 (I believe it says it was from Apr or May 2022). Since the drive works out of the box without any firmware changes (official or otherwise), I plan to stay with it unless something breaks down. This drive is working so far better than the LG WH16NS40 purchased nearly 18months ago. The LG drive is giving me trouble reading UHD and BR movies.

Good luck with whichever drive you decide for your use-case.

You made the right choice! I was only worried that you might have ordered the non-UHD version.

What happens if you power cycle the drive and perhaps reboot your computer?

Ultimately, since the drive is only capable of DVDs and blu-rays, not UHDs, LibreDrive is of limited value. I presume the drive is still letting you rip DVDs and blu-rays?

As a side note, I salute you, TalkTalk1701, for continuing to use a 5 year old OS on probably a 10 year old Mac. :)

Yes it still rips blu-ray and DVD's no problem, it was ripping newer blu-rays with newer protection i was worried about?? yes tried rebooting my computer unplugging the drive and re plugging it in and even trying it on my other Mac as well it said the same thing, not sure what else i can try?

Ha yes i keep it so i can still run older programs i still use that are no longer supported on newer OS's :) i have a newer Mac also :)
