Hi ! Is it possible to use the dovi_script tool of @RESET_9999 to create a Dolby vision profile 8 mkv and not a ts file ?
Certainly, you just need to modify the script by setting the "Choose a muxer" option for tsmuxer.popup to "NO" and mkvtoolnix.popup to "YES". You can set any other ts options to "NO" as well.
More reasons to collect physical media. Ugoos AM6B+ CE p3i PM4K.

Has the firetv cube gen 3 now surpassed the Shield as the best player for DV MKVs as it now supports bitstreaming? It has better DV support, right? (does it use the EL? or also just the RPUs, but better color accuracy?) It doesn't have gigabit ethernet, but the wifi 6E could conceptually compensate for that. I'm wondering what others think.
There is nothing wrong with the Shield. It is still the best option.
I'm trying to hybrid a HDR10 DCP Rip and a DV RPU. Problem is, they're of by a few frames. Is it true I don't need to calculate the frame difference anymore and align the two? That's not quite clear to me.
Edit: The HDR10 DCP Rip is 1 frame behind the DV RPU. Do I need to duplicate or remove 1 frame?

I don't believe it's automated, someone correct me if I'm wrong.
Perhaps somebody knows.
But I've created a few movies with the dovi_scripts.
They are single track dual layer profile 8.
I have muxed them to m2ts for playback on the Shield.
The ones with DTS-MA play properly.
However the ones with Dolby TrueHD seem to only play audio, the picture is frozen.

How did you do that? I thought P8 was a single layer format.
Regarding the audio issue, it can be helpful if you post the connection chain. It's a bit of a guess now.
I don't know the Shield. But because DTS-MA does work I'd wonder if the tv is the culprit here. Should your Shield connect to the tv directly, it may be possible the tv is able to handle DTS-MA (probably because of the dts core) but it can't handle a TrueHD stream. Should you have muxed TrueHD with embedded AC3 (as opposed to TrueHD only) possibly audio will work if you'd select that AC3-track for playback on the Shield.

Agree, TrueHD with AC3 core would be the best approach.
DV8 is by definition STSL, BL+RPU, so I don't think that was intended.
Has anyone run into issues with the Sony X700 or X800M2 where 4K files that aren't exactly 2160p resolution get down-res'ed to 1080p? Any fix for this with DAR/SAR headers?
I have a file that's 3840x2080 instead of 2160 and the X800M2 is playing it back with DV but outputting 1080p.
edit: Apple devices will need to remux files first in mp4box
Best for apple device since iphone4 is Subler. It has mp4 compatibility with dolby vision / atmos although i dont tested it now since departure to android.

Pitty your player doesn't just pad with black bars. Or even perform a minor stretch. Sony players have always had a reputation showing unforbidding behaviour towards non-compliant media. They clearly haven't changed. Without recoding, I very much doubt if a fix is possible for your video.
Where I assume it needs to be muxed in (m2)ts. Mkv does offer some tinkerings on container level, however there are very few players that honour certain headers.

strange, my x800m2/x700 doesnt downscale to 1080p with cropped 4k videos but it makes the letterbox grey and it's unwatchable.
