Hello

I crossflashed my BP50NB40 and everything seemed to go smoothly, but now I can't open the drive. The light blinks after sending the 'eject' command and then stops and nothing happens. Original firmware was 1.00 went to BP50NB40-NB50-1.03MK then BP60NB10 1.02MK. Did I miss something?

What is the manufacture date on the drive?
Is the SVC code on the label NB40 or NB50?

It sounds as though your drive is one of the old versions that isn't capable of reading UHD and should never have been flashed.

Did you dump the original firmware before doing any flashing?

I'm not sure if it can be recovered. Either way you will need the original firmware. If you have it, you could try the recovery method of SDFtool Flasher or the old dosflash method if your system is capable.

For the BP50NB40 it is supposed to be newer than approx Oct 2015 and SVC NB50, so yours past the year but failed the svc code, thus why I think yours is one of the old versions. Yes, I have flashed some with SVC NB40 but they were no older than 2020.

part of the warning notes probably doesn't get the emphasis it deserves & IMO, may contribute to these sort of mishaps? (+ not reading carefully... something I know something about )

I also mentioned this to Billy before that the warnings are not really that obvious. I suggest to make the MT1959 warning in a much bigger font, bold, red. Whatever works.

I have a much "wordier" guide over here but with many warnings and I had zero complaints of misflashs.

First clean your disc as good as possible with liquid soap and warm water. Then try again.

Wow! I really had to clean the discs. I thought I had kept my discs nice, but the littlest thing made it fail. It is very sensitive. I got it to work with a scrub down.

This is really to Coopervid. I have been trying to backup The Batman since the day it came out. Alwyas failing with some kind of physical media error. I never would have thought to wash any disc. Of course it works & of coure is makes sense. Thank you, sir or madame.

I got a BW-16D1HT made on 09/02/2021. I read in this thread that SDFtool can update the drive, in Windows, with firmware version either 3.01 or 3.02.

What other modifications need to be made to the drive so it can copy discs, or is that it?

After I am trying tout it seems that cannot find USB drive.

It cannot show both of BD drive, SATA nor USB.

Do you have MakeMKV installed in the default location (C:\Program Files (x86)\MakeMKV)?

Just a heads up related to flashing the BP50NB40 to a BP60NB10: if you use DVDFab software in addition to MakeMKV, do not load the BP50NB40 with the BP60NB10 firmware. instead choose your favorite BU40 firmware. This is for step 2, recovery mode, flashing the BP50NB40 service code NB52. DVDFab does not support the BP50NB40, WP50NB40, or BP60NB10 drive and have no plans to add support for them, she said, in a rather snarky tone

One more item of note: the BP50NB40 is not a "shuckable" drive, which I'm sure was done on purpose. So if you find a good deal on one and say hey I'll buy this and snag the BU40 drive out of it and put it in a nicer enclosure, don't even sweat it. Thank you.
