Hi...
Sheepishly I ask the following:
I got my BRD-XD07J-UHD in from Japan.
CD-ROM PIONEER BD-RW BDR-XD07U 1.01 PQ: 0 ANSI: 0
Linux 6.0.8-arch1-1
makemkv 1.17.2 linux (from AUR)
Put a Blu-Ray of a new film that came out, not UHD, rather not say the name.
Drive is spinning, reading, etc. For about 5 minutes, nothing.
Open MakeMKV, does the same thing, looping over and over down and up for a few minutes at a time.
I exit MakeMKV and kill the makemkvcom process.
Drive is still spinning, wait 5 more minutes, decide to pull the USB plug.
Drive is not powering on now... not from my PC, or from a USB charger for example
Have I foolishly killed this drive? If so, is there any recovery? I can attempt flashing something to a chip if needed...
Sorry. Thanks
Hello,
I also have the originally J version from Pioneer Japan. Is the one you got a clone?
Did you buy on AliExpress or Amazon as there is clones on both.
I didn't realise that there was clone Pioneer drives until a seller told me he could sell me the clone or original. I also asked another senior forum member and developer on this site to talk to the seller and we both verified the clone drives, so very scary.
I asked him what the difference was and he told me the inner parts was cheaper.
This is why I ask you where you purchased.
It was out of curiosity that the BDR-XS07JUHD was so cheap that I contacted the seller to ask him why.
He told me he was honest and that why he told me but warned me that there was sellers who do not and keep changing shops.
So be warned.
I am happy to look at this drive for you remotely.
Kind Regards
Asmcom
Hi, this is really concerning to read. I was not aware there were clones either.
I purchased it from Yahoo! Japan Shopping through Buyee. The box and contents all appear legitimate, but is there a distinction somehow?
I paid 14,000 yen, is that too low?
Also to note, you mention BDR-
XS07J-UHD , however the model I have is BDR-
XD07J-UHD. Is there a major distinction between them?
In terms of remotely looking at the drive, what would that involve? The drive is not even appearing in dmesg or as a USB device when plugged in, just no response at all. I've ordered an AC Adapter to test if perhaps somehow (despite it working once) there's not enough power from my laptop (or my other laptop, both USB 3.0, both working fine with other external drives or devices, even 2.5" USB drives).
One last edit, I tried with Windows 10 booted on the same laptop, no change.
Thanks for your assistance. Perhaps I will need to visit Japan then to get something like this...
