If it is not too much trouble, could you please show me what command you are using to generate DV mp4 with ffmpeg?
I would very much like to give it a try.
Im currently using ffmpeg dovi_tool mp4muxer and mp4box to generate DV mp4. The process is troublesome.
It will save a lot of effort, If ffmpeg alone can do it.
Many thanks.
did you try the old tsmuxer version that made fake p5 files?
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ze3VfN ... sp=sharing

if it works then you have your solution and it's much faster than the mp4muxer.

I have just tried it, unfortunately Apple's internal player has very poor compatibility. As far as I know, it only supports mp4 in hvc1 or dvh1 codec. And I don't have other player to test them, sorry.

Oh I don't nesscessarily use mp4muxer. I mentioned it because it's official tool.
I personally use ffmpeg to extract, dovi_tool to mux, and throw them including subtitle to mp4box. mp4box automatically generate P5 dvh1 by default no matter what the real profile is. The speed seems fine, like 5 min for 70G file. So it's not exactly that bad.

Could anyone with an ATV confirm what @manix said please?
if @sw5163 method works, then I'll update the "playback devices sheet" and make a workflow for Apple users in my DoVi_scripts

because we have conflicting information...

Tested the files cmv29.mp4 and cmv40.mp4 at my friend's who owns the ATV . The test was done using file explorer for mac (app) installed on the Atv and streaming directly from the Pc, so I think that apple internal player was used.
Both files played entirely in Dolby Vision without hassle.
Hope this can help RESET_9999

I saw the light changing frequently from dark to bright on both files.
So I think yes.

Also, I just noticed that the mp4 created by the latest mp4muxer works on the C2 while it's HDR10 only on the C8(we have to use the old mp4muxer).

Well, guess sometimes we need to break some rules.

Did you guys test infuse?
Theoretically, fake P5(HDR10 bl and RPU) in MKV should also play by infuse.
With mkv, it can have TrueHD, if ATV can properly handle it.

What do you mean? C2's internal player can also play FEL now? I thought only models before CX can do that.

No, I'm talking about P8.
the C8 (probably the C7/C9 too) cannot play the DV MP4 created by the latest version of the mp4muxer. We had to use the older/first version of the tool.

appleTV should be able to handle "fake p5" mp4 with LPCM.

Wonder how/if the dvh1 flag has affected playback compatibility this entire time

True, so can all the iOS devices. lpcm(7.1), flac(7.1), alac(up to 5.1) works in mp4 container for apple native player.
7.1 loseless on iPhone built in speaker, lol.

Apple being Apple, won't play dvhe or hev1 like the rest of the world. They have extremely poor compatibility internal player.

Conspiracy theory: Apple absolutely has the ability to support other formats. However, people now need to purchase 3rd party APP like infuse to play other formats. Apple can take 20% through the App Store purchase. So they refused to support other formats.(don't take this seriously)
