I'm sure you have already covered this, but whats the benefit of converting to profile 8?

for the itunes web-dl = better and more accurate colors
for everything else = just personal preference because I have TVs that don't support DV

I also found another very niche reason but applicable to me - if you use Phillips Hue lights and Hue Sync with your TV (I use Hue Essentials on my Shield in lieu of an official Sync Box) - it works with unprotected DV content like through Plex but it samples just the base layer without any of the color transformation in the DV metadata so it incorrectly just mimics red and greens for p5 files, for p7 and p8 files with HDR10 base layer, appropriate matching colors are output

all this talk is about WEB-DL from streaming services. From a BD source, you'll always get P8 or P7 depending on the workflow you chose.

No you cant convert P7/P8 to P5 yet.

If you want the best quality , you need a device capable of playing dual layer DV like the X700 / X800m2 / OPPO

got it i was able to get this result what do think about it ..... it noticeably less Brighter then P7 .

that is not how it works, you're just changing the container profile and not the actual RPU metadata profile.
As I said, you can't convert P8/P7 to P5.

So what happens if we get a Dolby Vision m2ts with cropped out black bars and they become grey on an Oppo 203 for example. Any way to fix this with tsmuxer or makemkv or sth?
