Some advices about riping discs by multiple optical drives

Post by phantom0308 » Fri Apr 15, 2022 10:20 pm

I have two optical drives for riping discs, A 16d1ht and B s12uht.

Sometimes in order to speed up the speed of rip discs,

I have to open two makemkv processes to make the two optical drives work at the same time, and this also brings a new problem.

If the capacities of the two discs are not equal, or the ripping speeds of the two drives are different, one disc drive must end its work first.

If the disc A finish ripping first and was ejected at this moment, it will cause the A process to detect another optical drive B that is still working,

and the B optical drive will slow down, and the laser head will move back and forth on the outer ring (the current scanning area) and the

inner ring (the area where the information of the disc is saved), making a sound of ka ka ka

Maybe the software will implement the following features in future versions?

①Under a single thread, multi-drive riping discs do not interfere with each other

②Under multiple threads, the thread corresponding to a certain drive will not scan other working drivers after disc was ejected

Among the multiple rip software I use now, dvdfab can achieve ①, anydvd can achieve ②, I think ② should be the best solution.

I'm very much looking forward to this feature being implemented.

Have you tried 'single drive' mode'?

I use single drive mode all the time and have successfully ripped 3 discs at high speed at the same time.

I have used 8 drives at a time testing before dispatch and do not have this problem of drives slowing down?
