Maybe the Pio drives are good because they are a bit slower? Damn quiet though, when ripping! I'm not really too concerned with the extra 20-30 mins taken to rip when I can't even hear it working!!
It's likely that's why the bu40n is so good, as well. I just grabbed a Pio drive earlier when I saw Mike's post. Call it a curiosity as to how well it reads compared to the LG drives.
Out of interest SamuriHL, how does the Pioneer compare to your WH16NS60. If you were scoring the 2 drives out of 10, how do you rate them both for doing the job they are meant to do?

I know the BU40N is an excellent drive also.

Hello TeddyRaspin,

This is unusual from what I gather from talking to technical support for Europe.

The warranty is good with Pioneer so I will exchange any faulty drives in the 1st 12 months. Should have Vantec DX2 enclosure for you shortly. Hope all is good. I to, would like to know what happened to your drive. Hopefully the seller might tell you.

Asmcom
Seller already sent a new unit. The old one seems dead, like it was entirely disconnected from power or sata cables.

When the new one will come I'll report it here.

Edit. New unit arrived today. It is working fine, properly detected by Windows and MakeMKV via libredrive mode.

Okay, so I'm sure this has been answered, but after reading through 15 pages on LibreDrives, I'm still not sure what's going on/the answer. So here's the short I'm getting the "Can't read AACS VID from disc - most likely current AACS host certificate is revoked by your drive" Error and guessing it has something to do with me not having a LibreDrive? My drive information is:

OS device name: /dev/rdisk2
Current profile: BD-ROM
Manufacturer: PIONEER
Product: BD-RW BDR-XD05
Revision: 3.10
Bus encryption flags: 1B
Highest AACS version: 72

Now looking at the list it looks like my drive is covered, but I don't know what to do from here. Is a LIbreDrive firmware? How do I run it? Etc. I'm on a Mac by the way.

The Libredrive section is right below the drive section you posted above in MakeMKV. What does it say?
Cheers :D

That picture says you're running version 1.14.3 but that 1.16.7 is available.

Hello Mike

1) First of all I would like to say you: thank you so much for this amazing job you did. Got LibreDrive working on Pioneer drives is like an premature christmas gift. Even when is not required to modify firmware, thats awesome, excellent!
--
2) Second, I would like to confirm that LibreDrive is working perfectly on Verbatim 43888 drive (Verbatim Slimline Ultra HD 4K; Pioneer BDR-UD04 drive inside).
--
3) And third and main reason why I write this post here. For my supported drive BDR-212EBK (identified as BDR-212M) with 1.01 firmware I do not see LibreDrive section in MakeMKV. I think the problem is in USB 3.0 to SATA adapter I using.
This one exactly (most likely with one of the standard JMicron or ASMedia chipset):
https://i-tec.pro/en/produkt/usb3stada-2/

Everything is working well with my drive, I can rip blu-rays and burn disc, everything. But even "Pioneer BD Drive utility" do not see my drive. Do you want to try to solve this issue? Do you want me to help you somehow? Maybe also other people have similar issues using different USB-SATA adapters.

Greetings!
Hi all

For all of those you could have a similar problems or issues with USB 3.0-SATA adapters or enclosures. Those enclosures usually uses common JMicron or ASMedia chipsets with a variety of customized firmwares from different brands (with potentional issues).

I am using "i-tec USB 3.0 to SATA III Adapter", exactly this one:
https://i-tec.pro/en/produkt/usb3stada-2/

... and I was not able to get Pioneer BD Drive ulitity working - utlity did not find my drive. Also MakeMKV did not show LibreDrive section. We spent some time today with Mike and finally I got my adapter working well.
It was necessary to do a firmware update inside my USB 3.0 adapter.

My adapter is using JMicron JMS578 chipset. I downloaded standard firmware from this website:
https://wiki.odroid.com/odroid-xu4/soft ... _fw_update

I used "FwUpdateTool_v1_19_16_24.exe" firmware updater, which also allows current firmware dumping (backup).

I downloaded file (bin-16028_jms578_std_v00.04.01.04_self_power_odd_20190611.zip) and flashed firmware from file "JMS578_STD_v00.04.01.04_Self Power + ODD.bin" from that zip file and now everything works perfect - Pioneer utility found my drive and also MakeMKV is now showing LibreDrive section.

Hope this will helps.

Hi. My drive is branded Pioneer but has the following drive info:

OS device name: F:

Serial number: MOAJCOE3533
Firmware date: 2119-10-16 10:32
Bus encryption flags: 1F
Highest AACS version: 76

LibreDrive Information
Status: Possible (with patched firmware)
Drive platform: MT1959
Harware support: Yes
Firmware support: No
Firmware type: Original (patched version available)
Firmware version: 1.01
DVD all regions: Possible (with patched firmware)

Yep, it's a BU40N which is flashable. If you don't mind me asking, what model Pioneer is it?
Cheers :D

I don't think it actually branded as a pioneer archgon just puts a sticker on some of them that says pioneer/Panasonic inside they have done that to me when they sent the wrong drives

Does anyone here already have a portable BDR-XD08MB-S, BDR-XD08BK/SV/GL, BDR-AD08BK/SV/GL or BDR-XD08LE drive? They are sold only in Japan and I'm unable to get my hands on them personally. I need memory dumps from them very badly. Also, the BDR-S13JBK (not the J-X version), BDR-213JBK and BDR-X13J-S are also very wanted.

If anybody can help me get the dumps, please write me a PM. Thanks in advance!
Hey,
Cant find the PM icon :)

YOu still need the dump for XD08MB-S ?
I suppose you mean the tgz file MakeMKV generate ?

Rgds
