Godfather II & III issues
Re: Godfather II & III issues
BDR-212UBK. Don't know if that's the "best" Pioneer drive but it works very well for me. It's slow...4x max for UHD. I think that's part of its charm, however, when it comes to these stupid problematic discs. I read all 3 of my Godfather discs with that drive and had zero problems.
Re: Godfather II & III issues
I also have a Pioneer BDR-212UBK drive which has been working well.

Re: Godfather II & III issues
Do you think the bu40n or any troubleshooting would get passed a scratch like this on my godfather 2 disk?SamuriHL wrote: ↑Tue Mar 29, 2022 12:06 pmIt's set using registry entries so if you didn't explicitly set it, then it's disabled.
As for drives I only recommend bu40n or pioneer drives these days. Pioneer are slower but read very well. The bu40n is like a tank. It reads everything I've thrown at it except physically damaged discs.

Re: Godfather II & III issues
Physically scratched discs are almost always unrecoverable. Doesn't matter what drive you use. The data is so packed on these discs that a scratch renders it pretty useless most of the time.
Re: Godfather II & III issues
Yeah, my wh16ns60 has been great thus far. Hopefully the replacement is better.
Re: Godfather II & III issues
Was able to get a replacement disc and was able to backup w/o issue. Thanks everyone for their help.
Re: Godfather II & III issues
looked like that godfather disc was scratched. was able to rip a copy. is keeping the read speed unlimited going to introduce errors in ripping w/the wh16ns60? right now the value is set to 0, not 0=99, but when i open up makemkv, unrestricted read speed is listed as "yes". What do i change the registry value to if i want to go back to the default?
Re: Godfather II & III issues
Delete the registry entry if you want to default it. That's the easiest way.
Re: Godfather II & III issues
so in windows, in registry editor, delete the "speed_HL-DT-ST...." file? will it recreate a new file when makemkv starts back up?
Re: Godfather II & III issues
Just delete the data in that string. You don't have to delete the key itself. Just make the value blank.

Re: Godfather II & III issues
Weird. I did that and it still shows unrestricted read access. I also uninstalled makemkv, deleted the makemkv registry files and reinstalled and it's still there. I guess it'll always be on. Hope it doesn't lead to more read errors.
Re: Godfather II & III issues
As you saw in the other thread it'll always tell you the capability is there but it's not activated if the key isn't set.
