LibreDrive for Pioneer drives

hey guys
with the BDR-S12UHT now supported, could one argue this is the best drive to now get over the LG BH16NS55 and ASUS BW-16D1HT Pro (obviously flashed to make friendly)

Is there any benefits of having a friendly drive over a BDR-S12UHT official

The other drives are faster and work with more programs
Pioneer rips UHD at 4x LG/Asus can rip up to 12x or 8x stock

i would recommend a BU40N if you use other ripping programs for UHD or if you only use makemkv get a pioneer.
the BU40N/bp60 and clones are the best build quality for lg/asus the pioneer drives are regarded to be better but i have not done extensive testing like i have for the lg/asus drives and wont until they need to be flashed if ever

Just setup my new Pioneer BDR-S12UHT with one of my new DX2 Vantec enclosures, It really looks brilliant with the Vantec DX2. I am well pleased with my new drive and enclosure. This enclosure and drive is so silent.

No, libredrive won’t pass everything. It stops a drive from being revoked with new AACS revisions and re-enables UHD disc reading within a drive’s firmware if it could already recognise a UHD disc. The AACS encryption/decryption process still works the same as always. Libredrive doesn’t change that.

As mentioned before, your drive isn't a UHD model and doesn't natively read UHD discs.

and its enabled on my drive? why would it be enabled if its not compatible to read UHD discs?

What Mike says is correct. A drive that has LibreDrive enabled is needed to read UHD discs. He does not say anything about all LibreDrive enabled drives being able to read UHD discs. LibreDrive does not equal UHD readability! LibreDrive does however, re-enable UHD reading if the original firmware already had it.

I've got a BDR-212XJ (Identifies as a BDR-212M) which, despite apparently matching the list in the first post, isn't getting LibreDrive enabled. (it's not a UHD capable drive. But it is beige!)

You don't need to update your firmware just email the developer and he will help you dump yours and then it will be added
You could update it through official pioneer methods if you don't want to wait and it should be safe

I guess you are trying to read UHDs. Your drives are not UHD capable. Only those that include a letter "U" in their names.

Compatible with Libredrive? yes. This doesn't mean they can read UHDs. Like said: Only Pioneer drives that contain the letter"U" can read UHDs. Maybe somewhen in the future they can be ugraded by cross-flashing. Who knows... But not right now. You will need another drive to read UHDs.

Yes. The Pios are good burners for 50GB discs. Burn at 2x speed for best quality. For 25GB discs you can also use the LG / ASUS drives.
