Hello,
I crossflashed my LG BH16NS55 to WH16NS60 1.02MK as described in the forum and everything worked fine for almost a year now, but the blue laser seem to have died now (no matter what type of Blu-Ray I insert, doesn't detect any disc, DVDs work fine).
Before I return the drive to get a replacement I would like to restore the original firmware to avoid any trouble. How do I flash the firmware backup?
Best regards
Stefan
Edit: I do have an dump of the original firmware (a tar archive containing 6 files)
LG BH16NS55: How to restore original firmware?
Re: LG BH16NS55: How to restore original firmware?
It is highly unlikely that anyone will check the firmware version on a hardware problem. If you assume that they DO fire up the drive (the first unlikely thing), the fact that it responds will all that would be needed to check the laser.
For many manufacturers, getting you to return the object being replaced is primarily to test you. You thought it was broken enough to send it back to them for disposal, rather than doing it yourself.

Re: LG BH16NS55: How to restore original firmware?
You're probably right, but at least the name of the device reported by the firmware should match the actual device.
I tried flashing the BH16NS55 firmware in the package, but it still shows as WH16NS60. I flashed with the option "enc" or is this option only correct when flashing from the original firmware?
The backup does only contain the user data, not the firmware itself

You need to flash the drive to BH16NS55 1.04 MK firmware (in the "old" folder of the MK firmware pack) first, then use the original BH16NS55 1.05 flasher from the above topic.
Cheers

Thanks, flashing to 1.04 worked. Is there any way to flash to original 1.05 on Linux?

Not that I know of. I don't know if a VM would work or not... What firmware did it come with (should say on the label). If 1.04 just leave it as is and return it. If it came with 1.05, you could just flash it to BH16NS55 1.05 MK and then return it.
Cheers

I connected the device to a SATA/USB adapter, USB pass-through worked to update the drive from Windows 10 inside a VM.Billycar11 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 10, 2021 4:56 ama vm can work but the drive needs to be fully passed through

Cool. What model SATA/USB adapter did you use?stefan_o wrote: ↑Fri Dec 10, 2021 7:08 pmI connected the device to a SATA/USB adapter, USB pass-through worked to update the drive from Windows 10 inside a VM.Billycar11 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 10, 2021 4:56 ama vm can work but the drive needs to be fully passed through

Re: LG BH16NS55: How to restore original firmware?
A super cheap one I once bought to connect an old IDE 2.5" HDD, there's just "USB3.0 TO IDE/SATA" written on it, vendor/product id and string is "1f75:0611 Innostor Technology Corporation XT-U33502". There are still a lot on eBay (I'm not sure I'm allowed to post links, just search for USB3 to IDE/SATA) that look exactly like mine (rectangular shape, detachable USB cable with type A on both ends), I got mine for about 10€ including delivery (from inside the EU) a few years ago, now they are a lot more expensive...MartyMcNuts wrote: ↑Fri Dec 10, 2021 10:45 pmCool.
