Re: LG BH16NS40
Thanks for the reply Billycar11,
I tried the "The all you need firmware pack" and "Downgrade Enabled Firmware V.2", both say there is a checksum mismatch and to try again.

Use the SDF Flasher that Martymcnuts wrote. Version 1.05 is encrypted firmware so make sure the enc box is ticked.

WH16NS60 1.02mk is good firmware for this drive. This file is located in the latest MK file directory in old files directory.

Thank you asmcom, that worked perfectly.
When you are relying on a screen reader it is difficult to find specifics in a post as general as Billycar11's

With HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_WH16NS60-1.02-NM00100-211810291936.bin i get up around 15 read errors and the copy process is terminated.
With HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BH16NS40-NS50-1.03-NM00000-211711201943.bin it works. I cross checked just to be sure:
1) Flash HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BH16NS40-NS50-1.03-NM00000-211711201943.bin , get perfect copy, no errors.
2) Flash HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_WH16NS60-1.02-NM00100-211810291936.bin, read error- no copy
3) Retry to copy - fail, read error.
4) Flash HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BH16NS40-NS50-1.03-NM00000-211711201943.bin , get perfect copy again, no errors.
Before the try out, i cleaned the disk and after flashing the pc is is rebooted.
cpu is ryzen 5950x, 32gig ram 3600mhz and msi meg x570S ace max mb.
Im pretty sure my test is accurate and that HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_WH16NS60-1.02-NM00100-211810291936.bin is bad for BH16NS40 with 1.05 firmware stock.
Other than that , MakeMKV and the tools u guys provide is absolutely gold, amazing work.

It was using HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_WH16NS60-1.02-NM00100-211810291936.bin.
Flashed with -> "makemkvcon f -d /dev/sr1 rawflash enc -i HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_WH16NS60-1.02-NM00100-211810291936.bin"
I'm on linux and CLI only, as I am running it from Ubuntu in a jailroot (glibc bug).
I grabbed four BluRay discs that would not rip and none of them ripped with the alternate firmware.
All discs were purchased new, never played before attempting to rip. All discs look perfect.
Despite this, all discs were cleaned (I fog with my breath and then stroke laterally with a microfiber cloth). This did not help.
From there, I tried Pledge. Also did not help.
I don't know if this disproves the firmware benefit, as my drive is different than yours, but I will share what I have found.
Re: LG BH16NS40
Hi,
Piggybacking off of this thread. I have an old drive and I believe I read somewhere that its too old to flash. Is there anything I can do to get this drive working with MakeMKV or I'm out of luck with this one? Currently I just get a "No disc inserted" when trying to read a DVD with the drive in MakeMKV

It does´nt disprove the firmware benefit. Sharing findings is always good in my humble opinion.TomB19 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 10, 2022 7:52 pmI just rolled back one of my LG Electronics WH14NS40 to HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BH16NS40-NS50-1.03-NM00000-211711201943.bin.Jensen wrote: ↑Fri Sep 09, 2022 4:07 pmI just bought the same drive and did some testing using Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Re: LG BH16NS40
The reason why i bought a new Lg bh16ns40 is that my old Lgbh16ns40 (used on win 7) had a Drive platform not compatible with flashing / MakeMKV (win 11). I tried, however, since most of my movie collection is on blu rays, and completely bricked it.Statler76 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 14, 2022 4:30 amHi,

Re: LG BH16NS40
Hi!
I got an older BH16NS40 (Manufactured 2012) with original firmware 1.03 and drive platform MT1939.
Can this drive read UHD disks, does it need another firmware or should I use another drive?

Re: LG BH16NS40
Since no drive built prior to 2015 could POSSIBLY read a UHD, a drive from 2012 is "right out".
A different, newer drive is required.
