CXUHD+Lg-BH16NS55

#1 Post by elmarmolejo » Sun Aug 01, 2021 11:55 am

Hello.

I have burned 2 Verbatim disc "bdxl 100gb" with the drive "Lg-BH16NS55" kindle sell by asmcom 8)
but when I insert the disc in the Cambrgide Audio CXUHD player it reads the disc 1 out of 7 times.
The other 6 times I get the error message uknown disc.

I have burned it with imgburn (ver 2.5.8.0) in both udf 2.50 (Braveheart) and udf 2.60 (The Gentleman) and I can't get the disk to load the first time
Any advice you can give me to know what I'm doing wrong?

Also, the charging times are very long.
An original disc takes very little time to load

Greetings and thanks for your time

These LG drives are just lousy burners even with good Verbatim discs. They screw up especially at the layer break. If you want / need to burn discs you should purchase a Pioneer burner for that purpose.

I have made some enquires about your specific issue and I have been told that your player will play the following discs formats and the MDISC 100GB is not supported for this player.

The CXUHD plays Ultra HD Blu-ray BD discs, 3D and standard Blu-ray discs, SACDs, DVD-Audio, DVDs, CDs and rewriteable discs.

Kind Regards

I know you aren't asking for this suggestion but feel it might be useful in the future. I used to run back up disk to keep my originals safe and have since moved to pure digital and have no intention of going back. :D

Try setting up a Plex server system instead of using disk. Once converted (works well with MKV files for me so far) you can stream and access whatever you want and don't need to keep burning and messing with disk .. rip your disk, store them safely in a cool dry place, name the rips properly and then watch what you want. You can use practically any old computer. Got a computer that is 5 years old and was recently replaced? Use it. Laptop, use an external drive. Hell if you convert them (movies) to the sizes you want and store, you can eve run these off a Raspberry PI.(trade off storage for processor power that would be used for conversions) Start this, and then grow your collection as well as power of your system as you can.

Most devices have software to run Plex. Just download and input your Plex info into it and start watching moves. hell, Plex even has channels that give you free movies to boot!

Never look back at a disk again, (unless you loose your Plex HD and have to re-rip the disk.. or Plex backup)

What would be the best Pioneer burner to make my backups?

I have already sent you 2 eBay messages confirming the Pioneer as a good burner and recommend models to you. I totally agreed with Coopervid post, which is very good advice. The drive you have purchased Hitach BH16NS55 is a very good drive for reading your 4K discs. You cannot use the Pioneer to backup a 4k disc that you can edit or output a MKV file.

To edit and author your disc you will need a ASUS or LG Drive that is UHD Friendly or Official drive. If you are mainly interested in burning 4k files you have authored then I would keep your LG Drive for reading and as Coopervid says a Pioneer for burning.

You have told me that everywhere you read on the Web that the Pioneer drives are not good enough for burning discs and do not do what you wanted.

Please explain exactly what you want to do and the members on this forum can help you with very good advise.

Where are you reading that the Pioneer drives in general are not good at burning BD discs?

Thanks for the help that you are providing me.
As I have told asmcom I have made the mistake of misreading the information in the different posts and web pages due to my poor understanding of English.
I wanted to burn and rip uhd disc with the same burner.
And I thought that the unit that asmcom provided me did all the functions.
That has been the big mistake I have made.

I am going to take a few days to think about the solution since the unit can no longer be returned due to the 30 days having passed.
For work reasons in all this time I have only been able to burn two discs, if I had had more time then this matter would have been solved in a more satisfactory way.

However, thank you very much for the help you are giving me and again thank you very much to asmcom for giving me all the solutions that are in your power.

You can read also through this thread here. If you still can get a Pioneer 209 I would recommend it. A 212 is also OK but the 209 provides the better results.

One more hint. The usage of BD-XL discs is a waste of money since most set-top players can only read the first two layers, 66GB of data. If the discs should be played in those players please limit the data to 50GB and go with BD-DL discs which are also much cheaper. I use Japanese Verbatims depicted here as an example:

Yes this was the problem with the CXUHD player as 100gb discs were being used and the manufacturer of the player did not support the BDXL discs.

I also use the Japanese Verbatims, brilliant disc.

So, reading this post that you just published I come to the following conclusion (forgive me if I have not understood, guys)
If I buy the pioneer burner and use bdxl discs for my backups, the problem will continue to appear.
Because whatever disk I use, the CXUHD it will continue to give me reading and layer break problems.
I'm wrong?

greetings guys 8)

Yes this is correct. However a BD50 and BD66 should work. But you would have to shrink movie or just select the titles and audio you want.
