It seems my LG WH16NS40 just died. It no longer "sees" any bluray drives. I haven't ripped any 4k content yet (don't have that much anyway) but will do so going forward so I'd like to get a drive that is 4k friendly.
So I'm trying to decide between just getting another LG WH16NS40 or getting an ASUS BW-16D1HT. The LG is $65 on Amazon and the Asus is $78.
Any quick recommendations?

Thanks. I already ordered the WH16NS40. Amazon had a "used" one they could deliver next day for $53. A steal.

Re: Need to replace a LG WH16NS40
Wow. Thanks for the heads up. Cancelling the order and ordered the WH14NS40. So this drive is 14x but can be flashed to operate faster? I only rip with this drive and I'm not in a big rush but I don't really want it to be slowerBillycar11 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 06, 2021 8:27 pmThat's an extremely bad idea theses drive are already know for getting read errors or people getting old ones that can't be flashed to read UHD definitely should not buy used should get the WH14NS40 same drive again but cheaper

They sell BH16NS40 old style on ebay. Don't buy those! If you want a full size drive buy a BH16NS55 or the ASUS equivalent.
Re: Need to replace a LG WH16NS40
Got new drive in. tested old drive both in usb enclosure and out. No bueno. Opened it up and cleaned the blue laser with alcohol. Tested again both in enclosure and out. Still no go. Threw it away and installed WH14NS40 in enclosure and ripping again.
Thanks for all the help.
BTW, can I flash firmware from macOs or does this require Windows?
